Location/Division
The Materials and Structural Analysis Electron Microscopy (M&SA EM) business enables customers to find meaningful answers to questions that accelerate breakthrough discoveries, increase productivity, and ultimately change the world. The M&SA EM business designs, manufactures, and supports the broadest range of high-performance microscopy workflows that provide images and answers in the micro-, nano-, and picometer scales.
Combining hardware and software expertise in electron, ion, and light microscopy with deep application knowledge in the materials science, life sciences, electronics, and natural resources markets, the worldwide Electron Microscopy employees are dedicated to customers' pursuit of discovery and resolution to global challenges.
How will you make an impact?
The Applications Engineer is responsible for providing technical expertise and develop new techniques in the support of Thermo Fisher's North American sales efforts at specific customer semiconductor product developments. This customer focused position is ideal for an experienced technologist wanting to be involved with a dynamic team and exposed to a constant variety of customer application areas.
What will you do?
- Perform high quality SEM (scanning electron microscopy) product demonstrations, including the development of new techniques and applications for Thermo Fisher partners and customers, particularly those in the Semiconductor and Science marketplace.
- Conduct customer training and translate customer needs into workable solutions
- Providing technical product expertise assistance with all phases of the sales cycle.
- Customer support and applications training post sales cycle and after instrument has been installed.
- Provide continuous feedback to the product groups on system performance, features, and potential problems while collaborating with marketing/development groups on future product developments.
- Guide the customer in writing production recipes and qualification experiments to drive the production use of FEI's tools.
- Act as a primary communication conduit to the factory by reporting engineering and production issues from the customer to FEI.
- Recommend and advise on direction for potential applications consistent with customer requirements and technical feasibility.
- Provide technical support to SSD, R&D, Manufacturing, Customer Service and other departments as required.
How will you get here?
Education
- Minimum educational is a bachelor's degree in Physics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry and or Materials Science, Physics, an advanced degree is preferred.
Position may require Covid-19 vaccination and/or routine testing, per client discretion. As a requirement to be onsite at Thermo Fisher Scientific this position requires vaccination status disclosure upon employment.
Experience
- 5+ years' experience in a relevant commercial/research/production establishment with recent experience utilizing Microscopy technology in sample characterization.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Knowledge and recent hands-on experience with STEMFIB/SEM is required.
- Knowledge of advanced technology diagnostics as well as fault finding techniques, operational optimization, and experience of analytical equipment; specifically, electron/ion microscopes.
- High level understanding of semiconductor device processing, statistical process control, device physics and failure analysis techniques.
