Job Description

Position Summary
Manages, supervises and coordinates the activities of the assigned functional group/department. Assist in establishing operational objectives, goals and project assignment. Develop and implement team metrics to accomplish established objectives and goals. Administers and recommend changes to policies which affect department. Departmental subject matter expert.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1.Manages and/or coordinates the activities of a functional area or department with responsibility for results in terms of costs, methods and employees. Ensure that all the activities of the Microbiology lab related to the functional area are executed in a timely and efficient manner by scheduling, planning, and coordinating the activities of direct reports. Coordinate all/certain areas of the lab function. Provides guidance to supervisors and other department members.
2.Review and perform appraisals of direct reports. Issue warnings as required. Trains and mentors direct reports.
3.Approves and releases appropriate documentation for assigned testing for direct reports in a timely manner. Assure that the testing and documents are in compliance with cGMPs and SOPs.
4Interacts with senior management on matters concerning team results and potential outcomes. Requires the ability to change the thinking of, or gain acceptance of, others in challenging situations.
5.Works on and solves increasingly complex projects/problems where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Exercises judgment within defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Acts as advisor to teams/team members to meet schedules and/or resolve technical problems.
6.Prepares and administers budget of functional area in coordination with departmental budget and assists senior management in setting departmental goals.
7.Approves/prepares Investigative and Variance reports. Revises and writes Microbiology SOPs and protocols.
8.Represents department during client and regulatory agency audits. Makes presentations for the department as required.

Qualifications

9-11 years of experience in a Microbiology Lab with at least 9 years in a pharmaceutical/aseptic filling environment with a BS degree. 3-5 years of supervisory experience.
7-9 years of experience in a Microbiology Lab with at least 7 years in a pharmaceutical/aseptic filling environment with a MS degree. 3-5 years of supervisory experience.
2-5 years of experience in a Microbiology Lab with at least 3 years in a pharmaceutical/aseptic filling environment with a Ph.D degree. 3-5 years of supervisory experience.
