Description:
Tasks/Duties/Responsibilities
- The Staff Product Engineer uses good engineering practices to improve capital equipment for service and
- marketability.
- The Staff Product Engineer will apply broad engineering knowledge independently and within a cross-functional
- team to both lead and participate in complex engineering projects and CIP projects. These projects include
- obsolescence, re-engineering, feature enhancement and updates, CAPA and other company initiatives around
- quality, regulations, and service.
- The Staff Product Engineer with all phases of product enhancement, execution of sustaining engineering
- projects, and technical design documentation.
- The Staff Product Engineer will perform root-cause analysis, risk assessment, design and execution of
- investigative studies, statistical analysis of data sets, and formulate business-effective solutions based on the
- change analysis of cross-functional impact, and implementation plans for achieving the desired long-term
- outcome.
- The Staff Product Engineer will provide guidance and work direction to lower level engineers and related project
- team members.
- The Staff Product Engineer will on occasion provide field-based troubleshooting and hands-on product training to field based customers
Qualifications:
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The Staff Product Engineer will have a strong background in standard engineering principles/processes. Product
focus is electro-mechanical capital equipment and components, thus familiarity with systems engineering and
system reliability/maintainability is required. The Staff Product Engineer will have capabilities within the
company defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for product troubleshooting.
Working knowledge of statistics is required. The Staff Product Engineer will have a track record in the analysis
of malfunctioning components and subsystems. The Staff Product Engineer is comfortable in working with and
leading cross-functional team members and has highly effective verbal and written communication skills. The
incumbent is intrinsically motivated and proactive. The Staff Product Engineer will interact as the intermediary
between ASP Irvine and field-based personnel. As such (s)he will take both field-based and cross-functional
input into consideration throughout the product engineering process and as such strong communication skills,
tenacity, and willingness to listen actively are required. During the course of the product engineering processes,
updates of status and results to team members, management, and field-based personnel are paramount. Work
experience in a regulated industry is required.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Education: Master's degree or Equivalent
Preferred Area of Study: Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
Preferred Related Industry Experience: Medical device industry experience is preferred
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Experience in manufacturing processes of capital product including product reliability and qualification is desired.
Hands-on experience in working with vacuum chamber systems or fluidic systems is desired. Training and
working knowledge of six sigma methodology is desired. Electro-mechanical equipment experience is preferred,
strong root-cause analysis, and communication skills are required. International language skills e.g. Spanish,
Mandarin etc. are desired but not necessary. Basic project management skills or the ability to learn are
desirable.

Work Environment
General office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking for
up to 10% of the time. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate,
and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed
within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.
Manufacturing work environment. Work involves frequent lifting of materials and products. Machinery
operation requires the use of safety equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Laboratory work environment. Requires the use of safety equipment.
Field-based environment. Visit customer sites. Work requires significant local travel and may require occasional overnight travel and weekend and evening work.
