**POSITION TITLE** : Animal Science Technician II


**salary:** min is 37k mid is 46k max is 54k


**Shift:** M-F 6AM-2:30PM occasional weekend work


**POSITION SUMMARY** :


Kelly is seeking candidates for role of Animal Science Technician II to work with a team of scientists at reputable biopharmaceutical company conducting research and drug development.


**RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES** :


+ Responsible for the daily care of research animals, including feeding, watering, cage changing, cage washing, maintaining a clean work environment, and monitoring the overall health of the animals.


+ May perform routine procedures and post-operative care as directed.


+ Transfers animals from soiled to clean caging providing specified feed, water, and bedding. Notify supervising personnel of abnormal conditions.


+ Conducts daily animal health observations and completes health reports identifying sick animals. Perform basic animal health treatments with direction from the veterinary staff.


+ Cleans, sanitizes and autoclaves caging, equipment, and refills water bottles.


+ May also clean and replace excreta pans or pads. Receives feed, bedding, and supplies.


+ Autoclaves feed, bedding, and cages in preparation for use.


+ Maintains cagewash equipment, including cleaning the screens, jets, and manifolds.


+ Perform preventative maintenance such as de-scaling tanks and polishing machines.


+ Reports maintenance needs to the supervising personnel.


+ Performs general housekeeping duties including but not limited to sweeping and mopping work areas and corridors.


+ Properly disposes of waste.


+ Euthanatize rodents, according to written procedures.


+ May breed rodents, identify pregnant animals, wean animals, and perform routine technical procedures such as collecting tail tissue, blood collection, and administering substances via various routes e.g., sc, im, ip, iv and po.


+ Receives and permanently identifies animals by ear tags, tattoos, and leg and wing bands, and reports discrepancies to the supervising personnel.


+ Maintain animal records, including animal breeder cards, production logs, pedigree charts, inventory sheets, treatment logs etc.


+ Assists with the health-monitoring program, including testing for parasites.


+ May perform specialized tasks in hazard containment facilities, quarantine areas, or animal facilities adhering to regulations pertaining to biohazards while maintaining clean to soiled traffic flow patterns. Adhere to the department s guidelines and standard operating procedures.


**Performs other duties as assigned** .


+ With or without reasonable accommodation, employees in this position must be able to work with animals for up to 8 hours a day and lift feed bags, and animal cages up to 50 pounds, as well as perform repetitive motions with arms, wrists, and hands.


+ This position may also include utilizing disposable gloves and working in an environment that contains animal dander and dust particles.

**REQUIREMENTS:**


+ High school diploma or equivalent GED , with a minimum two years animal care experience.


+ An, Associate s degree in veterinary technology, or AALAS certification may be substituted for experience.


+ Good verbal and written communication skills.


+ Effective interpersonal relation skills.


+ Must demonstrate competency in technical procedures.


+ Those not assigned to a Dedicated Weekend Schedule Fri-Mon OR Sat/Sun only schedule, must be able to work weekend and holiday rotations.


+ AALAS certification preferred.
