Job description
This position is based in the Wilmington, MA area. Relocation is available if you are willing to relocate to the Boston area.
As an Automation Scientist you will use your technical expertise to support the Roche Sequencing and Life Sciences team to drive customer satisfaction and to increase sales revenue by identifying opportunities for new sequencing product applications on third party automated liquid handling systems in the Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) space.
The successful applicant will report to the Automation Manager, and will have the following responsibilities:
* Develop methods for Roche NGS workflows on liquid handling platforms, including programming, optimization, verification, and documentation.
* Execute process verification or optimization studies, including data generation, analysis, and reporting to key stake holders.
* Author user guides, training documentation, and marketing collateral related to automated NGS solutions.
* Collaborate with automated liquid handling vendors on the automation of Roche workflows with respect to development, verification, and documentation.
* Provide automation-related technical expertise as a member of a cross-functional team.
* Maintain in-house automated liquid handling systems and facilities.
* Remain current on automated liquid handler market trends.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
* 3 years of experience implementing, and evaluating complex laboratory, IT products, medical diagnostic equipment, reagents and/or systems.
* Previous experience mentoring and/or training.
* Previous related laboratory, IT, or Medical Technologist (ASCP) experience in a related environment (i.e. hospital, laboratory, university).
Preferred Qualifications:
* Advanced Degree in Science
* Minimum 3 years demonstrated experience of Molecular Biology/Biochemistry concepts, practices and procedures
* Minimum 3 years experience in sequencing and other genomics technologies
* Knowledge of bioinformatics and NGS data analysis a plus
* Knowledge of Automated Liquid Handlers- methods and troubleshooting
* BS or MS in molecular biology, biotechnology, engineering, or a closely related discipline with 3+ years relevant experience.
* Experience operating and programming automated liquid handling platforms.
* Experience with nanoliter liquid handling platforms.
* Experience with multiple computer languages preferred.
* Experience translating manual workflows into high throughput automated methods.
* Advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of Next Generation Sequencing sample preparation workflows and applications, including practical experience of genomics protocols and QC processes.
* Ability to troubleshoot and solve complex problems.
* Ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects and adapt to rapidly changing requirements, priorities, and schedules to meet project timelines.
* Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
* Collaborative personality with strong interpersonal skills.
* Strong presentation and communication skills
* Willing to travel 25% overnight
