Job description
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will lead the finance function in support of COPE's three divisions: Consulting, ARC (Analytics for Risk Contracting), and Workforce solutions. The CFO will provide functional day-to-day leadership of the internal Finance and Accounting teams. The successful candidate will have experience leading a team in a professional services environment and providing strategic financial insights to executive leadership, ideally within the consulting sector
The CFO's areas of responsibility include financial planning, budgeting, general accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, taxation, and audit processes, as well as internal M&A and capital raising related activities and strategy.
Position Description:
- Develop, implement, and maintain the essential financial operations and processes for the parent company and analytics subsidiary
- Oversee and manage all aspects of the Finance department, including payroll, month-close and year-end processes
- Own oversight of the fiscal year audits for both the parent company and analytics subsidiary
- Oversee the submission and collection of invoices to clients, ensuring timely accounts receivable management
- Communicate financial results, key financial metrics, and variance analysis to stakeholders, including members of the board of directors, and the finance committees of the boards of both the parent and the subsidiary
- Responsible for two direct reports: an FP&A manager and an accounting manager. Combined team will include 4- 6 individuals with a key role of the CFO being to improve efficiencies and streamline operations.
- Identify and adjust for evolving business needs, and seek opportunities for continuous improvement in finance and related processes, including configuration and utilization of all platforms such as the accounting software Sage, payroll system ADP, resource tracking system Kimble, sales tracking platform Salesforce and others
- Optimize the balance sheet through management of working capital and cash across the parent company and subsidiary
- Ensure appropriate policies are in place to comply with all internal and regulatory requirements, including preparation of all official documents and filings
- Set and articulate long-term financial strategy, goals, and targets for Company Solutions and ARC
- Create and implement winning strategies for revenue recognition, tax planning, cap tables of parent company and analytics subsidiary, employee stock compensation structure, and capital raising for parent and analytics subsidiary
- In conjunction with the Chief Executive Officer, manage investor relations and lead fund raising rounds, as approved by boards, for both the parent company and analytics subsidiary
- Work closely with firm account and service line leaders on pricing and incentive alignment structures for complex accounts, products and solutions.
- Provide training and coaching to client facing teams on how best to engage with client executive champions and finance departments to ensure timely payment
- Lead and engage closely with client facing account and service line/product teams at all levels on development of client and product pricing and contracting strategies
- Create, lead, and mentor a high-performing and efficient finance team
- Attend company events, functions, conferences and meetings as necessary
- Carry out other duties, tasks and projects as assigned
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Accounting or MBA preferred; active CPA required
- 10+ years of progressively responsible related experience
- Experience in a corporate finance role within a professional service environment, ideally a consulting firm
- Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP and technical accounting
- Strong understanding of forecasting and budgeting, and proven ability to hold others accountable to meet budget goals
- Experience in constructing complex, multi-year client contracts and pricing models that align financial incentive and maximize profitability
- Exemplary communication skills; comfort with presenting to Boards and investors
- Experience and desire to train, motivate, and lead a diverse team, while providing training, support and coaching to the entire company team in order to support achievement of company mission and financial goals
- Ability to work effectively on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
- Experience with Sage a plus
