Job description

Job Description

The UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine (DGSOM) is launching a sustained multi-year effort to invest in neuroscience through multiple faculty appointments. To initiate this strategic focus, DGSOM is seeking outstanding faculty members to join its highly interactive Neuroscience community in this coming year. We encourage applications from candidates at all levels whose work addresses fundamental questions in neuroscience or to explore mechanisms of disease. We are particularly interested in the study of neurodegenerative diseases ranging from basic mechanisms to clinical translational research, and in developing further strength in computational approaches to neuroscience. Approaches that span from model organisms to humans are welcome.

The positions are full time equivalent faculty positions. Successful candidates will have a primary appointment in the department best aligned with the candidates' interests in DGSOM (i.e., Neurobiology, Physiology, Biological Chemistry, Pathology, Molecular Pharmacology, Computational Medicine, Microbiology, Immunology & Molecular Genetics, Human Genetics, Neurology, Neurosurgery, or Psychiatry/Semel Institute).

Applicants must have a Ph.D., or an M.D., or equivalent degree. Preference will be given to early career applicants, i.e., at the Assistant Professor level, although exceptional candidates at any level, including Associate and Full Professor, will be considered. Emphasis will be placed on the applicants' record of research accomplishment and creativity, teaching excellence, professional activity, and service to the University community, as well as evidence of a commitment to a positive workplace climate for all, with equity, diversity, and inclusivity.

The Neuroscience faculty at UCLA occupy state-of-the-art modern laboratories, and conduct fundamental and/or translational research in molecular, cellular, computational, and systems neuroscience. Successful candidates will be a part of the Neuroscience Theme established to foster cross-campus research collaborations, and will have the opportunity to contribute to the teaching of neuroscience to undergraduate, graduate, and medical students.

Applications and supporting documents must be submitted electronically. We are eager to consider applications from a diverse pool of applicants considering diversity in all its forms, from a broad spectrum of neuroscience fields and training backgrounds, to diversity in race/ethnicity/gender and service history. To be considered, candidates should upload all of the following required materials on time: 1) a description of their research plans in less than three pages; 2) full curriculum vitae; 3) at least 3 letters of reference; and 4) a statement of commitment and contributions to equity, diversity, and inclusion. The first review date is October 26, 2021. Additional applications may be considered on a rolling basis up until November 29, 2021. Interviews and Symposia for shortlisted applicants are scheduled for January 18 & 19, 2022, and January 25 & 26, 2022.

The shared values of the David Geffen School of Medicine (DGSOM) are expressed in the Cultural North Star, which was developed by members of our community and affirms our commitment to doing what's right, making things better, and being kind. These are the standards to which we hold ourselves, and one another. Please read more about this important DGSOM program at
