AN2 is seeking an Assistant Controller who will be responsible for oversight and direction of day-to-day accounting operations. This position requires a hands-on approach to coaching and mentoring and will be critical in designing and implementing first-class accounting processes to support our company's growth. This position reports to the Vice President, Corporate Controller.

Responsibilities:

Lead the preparation of the Company's financial statements.

Own monthly/quarterly/annual financial close, including the development of processes and procedures to ensure completeness, timeliness, and accuracy in financial reporting.

Prepare and/or review monthly journal entries, including entries related to clinical and preclinical accruals and stock compensation.

Manage the payroll and stock plan administration function, reviewing the processing and recording of the semi-monthly payroll.

Review for accurate and timely month-end balance sheet reconciliations.

Implement accounting policies and reporting necessary to conform to GAAP.

Retain, hire, and develop additional staff as needed in general accounting and accounts payable.

Assist in the evaluation of accounting and internal control systems and help establish and maintain internal controls and disclosure controls.

Oversee federal, state, and local tax return preparation as well as tax provision.

Act as a liaison for external auditors.

Provide support for Audit Committee and Board presentations as needed.

Maintain knowledge of FASB pronouncements that impact the Company.

Maintain a basic understanding of the Company's Corporate and R&D operations.

Qualifications and Experience:

BA in Accounting or Finance.

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.

8+ years of progressive accounting experience.

Mix of public and private biotech/pharmaceutical company experience.

Knowledge of SEC rules and experience with SEC filings, including 10-Qs and 10-Ks, and XBRL tagging of related content, desired.

Broad knowledge of GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.

Experience with SOX 404, for compliance with Section 302 and Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, desired.

Clinical trial and stock-based compensation accounting experience.

Demonstrated success leading and mentoring a team.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent decision-making, problem-solving and analytical skills.

Enjoys working independently as well as in a fast-paced, scientific-oriented environment.

Systems implementation experience desired.
