Senior Scientist, Reagents

Pacific Biosciences is a fast paced, sequencing technology company that is seeking a driven, technical Senior Scientist to transfer new production processes and QC methods into an expanding manufacturing environment.

In this role, they will work with the development and operations teams to refine and complete the formal transfer of new production process and QC methods into manufacturing. They will also have a continuous improvement mindset and initiate improvement projects to enhance production efficiency, quality, costs, and scale. This candidate should have an organized, critical approach to completing projects (either as an individual, part of team, or as lead) and have a strong technical background with an eye for details and an aptitude for problem solving. A proven track record of commercializing molecular biology kits and strong communications skills are required.

Responsibilities include:

  • Complete product transfer activities from internal and external partners to move robust, efficient processes into sustaining manufacturing. Kits include Sample Preparation Kits to Sequencing Kits.
  • Complete sustaining manufacturing improvement projects to address process/QC robustness, efficiency, costs, and scale up.
  • Facilitate manufacturing troubleshooting/QC failures.
  • Set up new manufacturing environments.
  • Finalize manufacturing documentation set up (e.g., BOMS, batch records, quality methods, reports) to ensure completeness, accuracy, and data sufficiency.
  • Facilitate manufacturing/QC processes validation and operator training.
  • Work with the Development and Operations to complete time sensitive initiatives.

Position Requirements:

  • PhD or Masters in Biochemistry or Molecular Biology, or equivalent.
  • Proven track record of developing and transferring molecular biology kits into commercial manufacturing (e.g., formulations, enzymes, fluorescent molecules, oligonucleotides).
  • Deep understanding of product/process development, product transfer, and manufacturing of molecular biology kits.
  • Solid knowledge of molecular biology techniques, analytical methods, DOEs, and process validation
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Organized and critical thinker who can succeed in a fast-paced environment and span roles from hands-on lab work to leading projects.
  • Ability to take initiative and independently drive projects to completion with detailed and efficient execution and reporting.
  • Experience in PLM and ERP systems.
  • Experience in ISO 9001 and 13485 regulated environments.
  • Knowledge of PacBio Sequencing System or Next-Generation Sequencing is a plus.
