Temporary Lab Assistant


Job Title: LAB ASSISTANT


Status: Temporary


SUMMARY


Under general supervision, is responsible for supporting the sensory evaluation process for the descriptive panel, the discrimination panel, bench tastings, and sensory training events by conducting sample preparation, sample delivery, product/supply preparation and shipping samples to off-site locations. Is also responsible for general up-keep of the sensory laboratory.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


· Assists with daily sensory panel operations by setting up data collection computers and preparing samples and references. Performs clean-up and restocking after sensory panels.


· Creates labels and labels each sample.


· Sets up bench-tastings; performs clean-up after the tastings.


· Prepares and delivers samples for analytical analysis in a timely manner while preventing contamination or loss of samples.


· Enters evaluation data into SIMS or Excel databases.


· Supports sensory training events conducted by the Products Insight Sensory Operations (PISO) team.


· Prepares and ships products/supplies to internal facilities and third-party locations.


· Facilitates the picking-up and dumping of wine/empty glass bottles on a weekly basis.


· Maintains all supplies required for sensory laboratory.


· Cleans and ensures the general up-keep of the sensory laboratory.


· Enters product information into Database.


· Provides back up to the procurement function.


· Must maintain satisfactory attendance, to include timeliness.


· Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory considerations including following COVID-19 laboratory serving protocols wearing PPE.

QUALIFICATIONS


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


· High school diploma or GED.


· Required to lift and move up to 30 lbs.


· Skilled in the use of MS Word, and MS Excel at an intermediate level.


· Strong attention to detail.


· Read, write, speak and understand the English language.


· Comprehension of simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


· Associate degree in chemistry, food science, biology, or chemical engineering plus 1 year of work experience.


· Good oral and written communication skills.


· Experience of presenting information in one-on-one and small group setting to internal customers.


· Skilled in adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.


· Experience in food and beverage industry is a plus.


· Experience operating laboratory machines and equipment such as a dishwasher, automatic cork-puller, and stirring plate.
