ABOUT THE POSITION
Riverside University Health System has an opportunity for a Chaplain. This position is full-time and will be apart of the Palliative Care Team with addressing the spiritual and existential needs of patients, families, and staff at the Riverside University Health System (RUHS). This position is in Moreno Valley with a tentative shift of Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Chaplain is a journey level classification that reports to an appropriate management level position. Incumbents are characterized by performing with a high degree of independence on ethical, moral, and spiritual matters with the overall responsibility for providing spiritual guidance and counseling to inpatients and outpatient clinical team, service lines an other departments and participates in program development and quality improvement initiatives. The incumbent will provide counseling support to patients and families experiencing serious illness, focusing on providing spiritual guidance in a hospital environment. Experience working in Palliative Care is required and bilingual in English/Spanish is preferred.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Provides spiritual assessment to palliative care patients and their families, including spiritual distress and wounding, identifying sources of strength and meaning, forgiveness and reconciliation, closure and EOL concerns, pain and suffering, life review, and preparation for death.
Provide spiritual screening for adults and pediatrics: identify spiritual distress. Provide spiritual history: to identify patient preferences and values. Provide spiritual assessment for adult and pediatric palliative care patients: evaluate spiritual needs and plan of care.
Develops, describes and advances the plan of care specific to spiritual/emotional issues with the palliative care team; acts as spiritual care leader to other members of the team.
Works collaboratively with the RUHS Hospital Chaplain and provides spiritual guidance, assessment, counseling and support to palliative care patients, families, and staff.
Provides coverage and supports the spiritual needs of palliative care patients, family, and staff when the Hospital Chaplain is not available.
Chooses and utilizes appropriate pastoral care interventions and counseling techniques targeted to intended outcomes.
Supports and prepares caregivers and families for their role in the care of the patient and addresses conflicts if appropriate.
Provides counseling and support to patients and families experiencing life threatening illnesses.
Helps to identify and interpret cultures and faith traditions that impact health care practice and decisions.
Provides religious resources, including prayer, sacramental ministry,
rituals, and linkages to community clergy when appropriate.
Facilitates or assists in complex goals of care discussions, family meetings and other conversations about goals, values and emotional/spiritual/cultural needs.
Provides education on sustainable practice and spiritual needs of palliative care patients/families to fellows, residents, medical students, nurses and chaplains rotating with the palliative care service as well as throughout the hospital.
Complies with standards for timely submission, accuracy and completeness of documentation in the medical record and collects all required statistical data.
Participates in quality improvement, team goal setting, program development and outcomes measurement for the Palliative Care Service and all appropriate service lines.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:Graduation with a Masters of Divinity degree or comparable graduate credits from an accredited seminary, college or university.
Certification/Registration: Currently ordained and in good standing with own religious denomination. Board certified with Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) of other faith based appropriate board or eligibility to become certified within 2 years of employment.
Experience: Three years of ministry experience with a recognized church or other religious organizations.In addition one year of palliative care experience.
Knowledge of: Providing palliative care in assessing and addressing the spiritual and existential needs of patients, families and staff through the provision comprehensive spiritual screening, assessment and interventions, including pastoral counseling and crisis intervention, consultation, and education support. Including knowledge of Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
Ability to: Collaborate with the palliative care teams by contributing to team goal setting in respecting and providing cultural, emotional and spiritual care to patients. Consulting impatient and outpatient clinical teams, service lines and other departments. Actively participates in program development and quality improvement initiatives. Provides evidence-based care and takes responsibility for continued professional development.

Possession of a License/Certificate: Possession of a valid California Driver's License ispreferred.
