Aqua Fitness Instructor

$26.25 - $52.50 Hourly

Part-Time Non-benefited

Aqua Fitness Instructors provide well planned in water work outs for the participants of their classes. The students may include adolescents and adults, including people with special needs and different swimming abilities. Class sizes vary.

Schedule

Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Salary

The salary range for this position is $26.25 to $52.50 per hour. This is a seasonal, part-time, non-benefited position. Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

* Be familiar with the description and requirements for classes offered through the City of Morgan Hill.
* Plan and execute a well-structured exercise plan that is safe and comfortable for participants.
* Adapt your approaches to the age, experience, and ability of participants.
* Maintain constant supervision of all participants, even while providing individual instruction.
* Effectively communicate verbally with supervisor, staff and participants. Inform supervisor of any safety issues or concerns.
* Knowledge of basic exercise science as it applies to Aqua Fitness.
* Perform rescues, administer first aid, perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and summon Supervisors and emergency personnel as required for injuries or other medical emergencies.
* Ensure the safety of all participants in Aqua Fitness classes; submit Accident/Incident Reports to the Supervisor within 24 hours of any incident.
* Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements

Education:

* Graduation from high school or GED equivalent is desirable. This provision may be waived for applicants 16 to 18 years of age with ability to obtain a valid work permit.

Experience:

* Previous experience as an Aqua Fitness Instructor is desirable.

Certificates:

* Current First Aid, CPR
* Aqua Fitness certification within first year of hire

Special Requirements:

* Position requires flexible availability.
* Applicants must be willing to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
* Applicants must be physically capable of sustained walking, standing, or climbing.
* Applicants must be willing to work flexible hours; including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Supplemental Information

SELECTION PROCESS

Applications will be screened and those applicants who possess the minimum qualifications will be invited to an oral interview with the Aquatics Center Recreation Coordinator. Prior to appointment, a background check, including fingerprinting for submission to the Department of Justice must be completed, as well as Tuberculosis (TB) screening.

Part-time, temporary positions are non-benefitted, at-will positions. Part-time employees are enrolled in the PARS retirement system and the employee pays 7.5%, which is deducted from the employees' payroll check. The PARS retirement system is in lieu of participating in social security. Part-time employees participate in the Medicare portion of social security as that is a required program.

You may accrue up to 24 hours a year in sick leave based on the number of hours worked within the year.
