As an Associate Scientist, you will be part of our Downstream Process Development team where you will work closely with members from the Upstream and Analytical Development teams. This role is part of a cross-functional team, requiring you to communicate and work well with multiple departments, including Preclinical and Research teams. Alector is seeking a candidate with experience purifying protein biomolecules. The successful candidate will have in-depth experience of industry-standard chromatography methods and possess practical knowledge of development. You will be in charge of purifying research biomolecules to support drug discovery efforts and support the development of product-specific, purification processes for Alector's lead molecules. You will identify and provide support for ongoing programs and your work will be central to Alector's strategic goals. You will be influential in championing and developing Alector's culture.
We'd love to hear from you if you have:
- B.S. degree in related scientific field with 8-12 years of relevant industry experience OR M.S degree with 4-8 years of relevant industry experience
- Hands-on experience purifying various proteins using AKTA FPLC systems; experience purifying monoclonal antibodies and bi-specific molecules is highly desirable
- Mastery of Unicorn software and ability to author and customize purification methods for various techniques is a must
- Must possess a high degree of technical competence of industry-standard techniques and methods for the purification of antibodies such as: Protein A affinity chromatography, IEX chromatography, HIC chromatography, mixed mode chromatography, and UF/DF, TFF, and formulation unit operations
- Strong organization skills in experiment recording and data summary with strong attention to detail
- Apply knowledge and skill to independently problem-solve and devise new methods and/or optimize existing methods to purify difficult proteins
- Excellent project management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple work streams and deadlines, balance opposing priorities and communicate effectively
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are essential in our collaborative work environment
Responsibilities
- Support in-house, large-scale material generation in support of non-GMP studies
- Purification of murine and humanized antibodies, bi-specific molecules, and fusion proteins using single or multi-step chromatography step(s)
- Support in reviewing and editing of various development reports like Process Descriptions, stability reports, and Purification Process Development reports
- Executing Batch Production Records and following purification SOPs for large-scale purification workflows
- Contribute to expanding internal development capabilities by researching new technologies and instrumentation, and staying current with industry trends
- Design, execute and analyze complex purification development experiments with minimal supervision is a must
- Additional desirable skills: experience with basic analytical assays (e.g. SDS-PAGE, SEC-HPLC, UV-Vis, LAL), liquid protein formulation development, and large-scale purification
