Lets do this. Lets change the world. In this vital role you will lead Global Medical Affairs strategies for Amgens Inflammation marketed products and pipeline assets. Drive development and execution of medical strategies to maximize Amgens value proposition in alignment with product and franchise strategies.
This role will oversee the Inflammation Therapeutic Area (TA) platform and supervise a team of Global Medical Affairs Leads (GMALs) and US Medical Affairs Leads (USMLs). These GMALs and USMLs roles partner with (a) global product teams in creation and execution of global product strategy and (b) regional and country medical product leads in development and implementation of medical strategies that are integrated with regional and country product strategy. This role also will partner with cross-functional leadership responsible for advancing Amgens early stage molecules and oversee strategies for evidence generation, scientific communication, and external engagement.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of global medical strategies for multiple marketed products at different stages of the lifecycle and early pipeline assets in the Inflammation platform in partnership with cross-functional leaders in Global Development, Commercial, and other stakeholders
  • Manage, direct, and mentor product leads to ensure effective external stakeholder management, communication ( e.g. , clinical narrative framework, scientific platform, core content, congresses, and publications), evidence generation, medical education, and medical insights
  • Recruit, build, develop and mentor the Inflammation Medical Affairs teams
  • Provide medical strategic perspectives to key commercialization forums for Inflammation products
  • Provide input into strategies for ensuring access to innovative Inflammation products globally
  • Oversee resources and budget allocation necessary to deliver on Medical Affairs capabilities
  • Continue to enhance Amgens reputation as a science-based, patient-focused partner

Basic Qualifications:
  • Doctorate degree & 6 years of Medical Affairs experience OR
  • Masters degree & 10 years of Medical Affairs experience OR
  • Bachelors degree & 12 years of Medical Affairs experience AND
  • 6 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources
Preferred Qualifications:
  • MD plus accredited fellowship in Rheumatology or Dermatology or related medical discipline, board certified, or board eligible
  • Extensive experience in the Inflammation therapeutic area
  • 10+ years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry (biotech, pharmaceutical, or CRO), including Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, or Clinical Study Management
  • Ex-US Regional, Local and/or Global HQ experience working in a matrix organization of a major Pharmaceutical company
  • 5+ years of Medical Affairs experience, including collaborations with national health care systems, integrated delivery networks, accountable care organizations, and/or payers
  • Extensive knowledge of pharmaceutical product development, product lifecycle, and commercialization processes, including but not limited to, clinical operations, commercial, regulatory affairs, drug safety, and medical affairs
  • Knowledge of Good Clinical Practices (GCP) and global regulations and guidelines
  • Experience in a product launch environment
  • Finance, budgeting, and resource management experience
  • History of solving problems while exhibiting superior judgment and a balanced, realistic understanding of issues
