Utility Operator Lead Job Description

* Overseeing the monitoring and response of the Utility Plant operator group (8 operators total)
* Oversee, and operate multiple pharmaceutical related water systems (incoming city water, multimedia filtration and water softening operations, Industrial cold water, Soft water, Clean Water storage systems, Reverse osmosis, Vapor compression water stills).
* Oversight, operation, and troubleshooting of Central utilities (Chillers (R134), Air compressors, Boilers, incoming natural gas, Heating hot water and chiller water distribution, Emergency Diesel fire pumps including refuel, Emergency Diesel generators including refuel).
* Oversight, monitoring and troubleshooting of HVAC systems (refrigeration, air handlers, supply and exhaust fans, heating/cooling units, fan coil units, differential pressure monitoring, air change rates).
* Oversight and operation of Water quality monitoring and monitoring and documentation of weekly sanitizations of WFI (water for injection) user loops (temperature, pressure, flow, conductivity, TOC levels).
* Oversight, operation, and troubleshooting of bio waste, water waste systems (PH treatment, anti-foam treatment, temperature, and daily allowable city flow monitoring).
* Operate, troubleshoot, and make adjustments utilizing local PLCs and the building management system for various equipment types throughout the site.
* Oversee, coordinate, and communicate multiple operations in regards to project work (Cooling tower refurbishment, Chemical cleaning system line install, Waste system Heat inactivation decommissioning, BMS network upgrade, Reverse Osmosis UV upgrade, filter upgrade and operational modifications, Air change rate project).
* Perform Oversight, coordination, communication, delivery/offload, and operations/distribution in regards to bulk chemical and bulk gas (Sodium Hydroxide, Sulfuric Acid, Liquid O2, Liquid CO2, Liquid Nitrogen, Amine, Phosphate/Molybdate, and corrosion inhibitors).
* Oversee, perform and monitor daily chemistry samples for multiple water samples. Chemistry operations include testing for water hardness, phosphates, sulfites, conductivity and total organic carbon.
* Provide training to new hires and upcoming operators and ensure success.
* Maintain a 100% completion status on all training platforms (Genentech and JLL).
* Communicate, coordinate, plan and schedule with multiple vendors for chillers, air compressors, diesel fire pumps, Vibration monitoring, HACH hardness, HACH chlorine analyzers, and backflow testing and certification.
* Review purchase orders and submit quotes in regards to vendor work.
* Coordinate, create, and execute Risk work plans/Job Hazard assessments.
* Track and ensure completion of work orders for operators and owned work on a complete and timely basis (Work orders tracked within GMP validated tracking system. SAP program).
* Attend weekly meetings with system engineers and Quality Assurance in regards to the review, and proper documentation of all critical alarm and critical alerts (alarm reporting).
* Attend weekly meeting for central plant improvement which entails the reduction of power usage to site. Executed through program changes within the building management system and operational adjustments in the field. Total cost savings to site power bill since involvement approx. $175,000 per year (team of 3 including client representatives)
* Submission of changes (red line) for Standard Operation Procedures to client and provide reasoning/proof of improvement needed.
* Maintain within compliance and adhere to all site rules and regulations for GMP standards.
* Maintain, enforce, and improve on all aspects safety related (PPE, ops, hazards). Report findings or safety issues to the Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) group onsite at Genentech and respond accordingly per Genentech procedures.
* Maintain constant communication with client groups (Manufacturing, System engineers, Quality assurance, Quality Control, SHE department, REM, Warehouse shipping and receiving, Utility mechanics, Instrumentation and calibration, and automation) at Genentech in regards to issues, informs, and improvements.
* Perform other job-related duties and special projects as requested.

Training & Education Preferred:

* A high School degree is required along with the successful completion of an apprenticeship from a trade school of recognized standing with a concentration in one of the above trades.
* Associate Degree or Technical School equivalent is preferred.
* Must possess (or obtain within a specified time frame) all applicable training and certifications such as: Respirator, Hazard Communication, Lockout / Tag out, and Confined Space.
* Proficiency in various computer programs such as SAP, CMMs systems, Maximo, MS Word, Excel, Project, Outlook, etc.

Prior Experience Preferred:

* Position requires a minimum of 5 years' experience in Facility maintenance with emphasis in a GMP/GxP

Environment. Familiarity in electrical, mechanical, pipefitting, and/or HVAC trades

* 5-10 years' experience working multi-trade environment and maintaining an R&D facility.
* Pharmaceutical/Biotech manufacturing research facilities experience is preferred.
