Michael Baker International is seeking a Business Development Associate to support our Inland Empire/Coachella Valley area

Business Development Leadership

  • Share your visionary, high energy, collaborative business development approach and leadership abilities with key members of the Ontario, Temecula, and Palm Desert Office Teams and the Michael Baker West Region.
  • Report directly to and work closely with the Inland Empire/Coachella Valley Office Executive. Closely coordinate with the Office Executive and other local staff to ensure excellent communication.
  • Assist with the implementation of Business Development best practices throughout the office.
  • Help the Inland Empire/Coachella Valley Area improve win rate through enhanced Business Development protocols and best practices.
  • Assist office and department leadership with strategic planning, helping to track progress and implement course changes as required.
  • Ensure areawide accuracy of data within Michael Baker's client/pursuit tracking system.

Market Analysis/Pursuit Strategy
  • Participate in internal business development and marketing meetings with project managers and subject matter experts.
  • Assist in the identification of new clients and opportunities and analyze the needs of current/repeat clients.
  • Research market trends/client needs and determine how to position the firm and local team to capture more of the market.
  • Coordinate, develop and maintain a client relationship database and assist with the prioritization of client investments.
  • Track and prioritize pursuit opportunities and action items.
  • Assist in identifying project pursuit opportunities through researching client websites, budgets, capital improvement programs, etc.

Capture Planning
  • Fully engage on all Inland Empire/Coachella Valley pursuits, and other key Regional pursuits.
  • Lead the development and execution of Capture Plans with the objective of increasing the win probability of targeted pursuits within the transportation, municipal, water, surface water, land development, planning, construction services, and GIT markets.
  • Assist in the strategy and messaging for targeted pursuits to craft a winning proposal.
  • Assist with the development of gap analyses, competitive assessments, discriminators and key win themes, and overall win strategy/value proposition.
  • Participate in external teaming arrangements and partnerships to include identifying, selecting, and recruiting consultant partners and subconsultants.
  • Facilitate strategy sessions with capture teams and proposal teams.
  • Support interview team preparation including presentation and Q&A preparation.

Relationship Management in the Community
  • Attend local events (conferences, seminars, association meetings), and volunteer for leadership positions within industry groups.
  • Attend local client meetings (boards, committees, pre-proposal).
  • Maintain relationships with local subconsultants, teaming partners, and clients.
  • Efficiently translate intel and relationships into client meetings, pursuit opportunities, and project wins.
  • Marketing/Proposal Production Support
  • Coordinate with Michael Baker's Marketing and Proposal Production Center and Media Arts Team for proposal development support.
  • Transition capture plans into proposal submittals - ensuring win themes, strategic messaging, and value propositions are woven into the proposal production process.
  • Draft proposal narratives and story boards with strategic messaging.
  • Coordinate with and assist Project Managers on proposal development as needed.
  • Provide quality control on proposals and marketing materials.
  • Develop award submissions for internal and external clients.
  • Assist with development and implementation of branding plan.
  • Assist with the coordination of advertising schedules
  • Assist with the creation of collateral materials.

REQUIREMENTS
  • 10+ years of A/E/C industry experience.
  • Ability to effectively multi-task under stress and tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated collaborative team leadership and team building.
  • Strategic thinker with high ethical and business standards.
  • Excellent computer skills with a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office to include Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe products like InDesign.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
