Job description
Tool Designer - Fabrication
Designs tools, jigs, fixtures and other special devices for specified operations in the weldment and production function.
Analyzes engineering blueprints, operation specifications and other engineering or shop date to determine the proper design of requested tool
Ensures design is compatible with specified fabrications/welding procedures and with the limitations of the equipment to be employed
Prepares design drawings and specifications
Developing/machining tooling concepts, creating/reviewing and improving manufacturing processes to meet Customer requirements
Fabricates, machines and grinds as necessary to produce tooling, prototype and production parts as required Inspect tool configuration for drawing compliance, including fit, form and function
May also review or correct design of existing tools to conform with engineering and production changes
Performs other duties as required
Skills & Qualifications
Requires 5 years plus manual machining (Mill and Lathe) experience
Requires ability to select and use all types of mill and lathe machines, fixtures, gages, etc.
Read and interpret complex mechanical drawing and common work instructions without supervision.
Ability to work with NX Siemens CAD and model tooling and fixture Ability to perform prototype manual machining, and precision material removal to complex specifications with minimal instructions.
Basic mathematical skills such as add, subtract, multiply and divide.
Perform SPC (Statistical process control) on work performed.
Perform routine basic and complex preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
Ability to shift priorities with little or no notice.
Drafting, designing and modeling using 2D and 3D CAD models.
Perform other assignments as required.
