At Maxar, our next generation spacecraft range from Earth observation to interplanetary missions, including NASA's Artemis Program Lunar Gateway Power and Propulsion Element (PPE). We are looking for an experienced Avionics Technical Project Manager to join our growing Space Program Delivery team. This position provides an opportunity to combine Avionics Hardware expertise with Project and Supplier Management skills. This role may be performed remotely within the U.S.

In this role, you will act as the engineering focal point and project manager for a range of avionics developments. In this position, you will be collaborating closely with our strategic suppliers and you will own all aspects of the development effort both from a technical and programmatic standpoint. You will need to understand our suppliers' problems and collaborate with them on finding technical solutions that meet the schedule and cost needs of our Space Infrastructure programs. Competent electrical and mechanical engineering decision-making skills are fundamental for this position, as well as a breadth of technical knowledge to understand the underlying issues and mitigate potential risks before they are realized.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage avionics development projects with our strategic suppliers, overseeing all aspects of the technical design as well as cost and schedule
  • Focal point for issue resolution with our suppliers, helping on the troubleshooting, redesign and rework efforts in close collaboration with our internal engineering team
  • Interface with our Subsystem Leads to understand the needs of new spacecraft developments and ensure that we are providing the right product to the team
  • Write requirements for new avionics development efforts and negotiate them with our external strategic suppliers
  • Evaluate new suppliers and assess their capability to deliver a final avionics product within the required schedule, budget and quality requirements
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert on Design for Manufacturing, reviewing the designs and providing in-house consulting capabilities
  • Oversee the transition of avionics systems from the R&D to the production phases, establishing best practices for high volume manufacturing


Minimum Requirements:
  • Must ==== or permanent resident
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, mathematics, computer science or a related field. 4 additional years of experience may be substituted for a degree.
  • 5 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering or hardware supplier management. A master's degree can account for two years of experience.
  • Ability to travel up to a 25% of the time to suppliers and other Maxar facilities


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 8 years of relevant experience
  • Familiarity with satellite avionics design and test obtained through educational training and/or on the-job experience in a related field.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
