Job description

DEFINITION

Under direction, to perform duties in the paraprofessional job category; to perform other related duties as required; and to be a member of the Unclassified Service in a part-time classification.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS

Performs part-time paraprofessional duties including but not limited to observing swimming areas for emergencies, rescuing bathers, applying artificial respiration and/or first-aid to rescued or injured bathers; conducts swimming classes; enforces rules governing the conduct of persons in or near the water; provides information to the public; implements directions from supervisors provided orally and in writing; reports orally and in writing to superiors regarding safety and health concerns encountered while performing required duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: Principals and practices of effective training; first-aid; cardiopulmonary resuscitation; and water safety.

Ability to:Meet medical standards for the class prescribed in theCity of Redondo Beachmedical standards, and physical employment standards; passa swimming test that includes lifting weights from the bottom ofa pool; work irregular hours; satisfactorily perform required duties including but not limited to conducting swimming classes and administering first-aid; learn the principals and practices ofeffective supervision; read,speak, write and understand the English language; adhere toapplicable terms and conditions of employment including but not limited to safety and healthregulations; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Valid American Red Cross certificates for lifeguard training, first-aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and watersafety instruction required.

SELECTION PROCESS:

The selection process may include but is not limited to: application review and evaluation, written examination, performance test and interview. All employment offers made by the City are contingent upon establishing proof of a prospective candidate's legal authorization to work in the United States and successfully passing all components of the pre-employment process, such as: reference check, background investigation, fingerprint criminal history check, post-offer drug test, post-offer psychological and post-offer medical examination, the cost of which will be borne by the City.

Candidates must fill out the employment application and supplemental questions completely and accurately. Incomplete applications, including references to "see resume", are considered incomplete and will be disqualified.
