Job description

General Summary

This position is responsible for supervising the Quality Control Testing team and the sampling and testing of Hot Mix Asphalt in plant and laboratory settings to ensure compliance with the supplier and/or owner specifications.

Essential Job Accountabilities

  1. Work in alignment with Graniterock Safe Work Practices, Core Purpose, Values and Objectives and support "One Company" principles.
  2. Manage, coach and develop Research Technical Services team including day to day activities in the lab.
  3. Utilizing high-level problem-solving skills, create high quality products and research and solve technical issues with our material plants and construction projects.
  4. Supervise and/or coordinate quality control testing on aggregate and hot mix asphalt to ensure compliance with the supplier and/or owner specifications while improving products.
  5. Perform quality control testing on HMA in a plant and lab setting to ensure compliance with the supplier and/or owner specifications.
  6. Partner with operations and senior RTS management by communicating testing and inspection results to help formulate solutions to ensure quality control standards are satisfied and process changes can be implemented .
  7. Prepare, calculate, and analyze results of laboratory testing utilizing math and problem-solving skills to ensure compliance with the supplier and/or owner specifications.
  8. Develop potential improvements to plants and/or materials in order to reduce cost and increase in quality

Education and Work Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • Regional or State Agency certification for material being sampled, tested and inspected required.
  • 5+ years of experience in construction materials field and/or lab testing.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to work in alignment with Graniterock's Safe Work Practices, Core Purpose, Values, and Objectives, and support "One Company" principles.
  • Must be a self-starter and manage his/her day to day tasks
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office products
  • Knowledge of Caltrans Standard Specifications for HMA
  • Knowledge of volumetric HMA mix design
  • Demonstrated exceptional oral and written communication skills

Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver's license and good driving record
  • Must be able to work various shifts, including overnight, as required by business needs
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs safely from floor to hip height repeatedly throughout day
