JOB SUMMARY

The Billing Assistant will provide support for various aspects of the billing process, including but not limited to submitting claims, tracking payments, compiling reports, and verifying customer/payer information.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES

* Review, maintain, and process timely billing and claim submissions with accuracy and completeness.
* Track health plan memberships and utilization to determine rates of payment for capitated plans.
* Submit billing claims to insurance carriers and update the Accounts Receivable Billing System to document claim processing statuses.
* Track and deposit payments received from health plans and providers.
* Issue payments to vendors and verify check statuses with the bank.
* Process and prepare batch printing and sorting of paper claims.
* Prepare documents for imaging and retrieve records from the imaging system.
* Verify, update, and check eligibility of payer information as needed.
* Notify the appropriate personnel of changes in client payers and communicate changes to all affected departments.
* Assist the Pre-Billing department with researching and resolving client reimbursement issues.
* Act as a resource for Administration and Operations regarding client-specific issues.
* Maintain data in Microsoft Excel and compile regular reports as requested.
* Process incoming and outgoing mail.
* Pull and print required documents to attach to claims or refunds.
* Update client information in the system as needed.
* Adhere to HIPAA laws and company policies/procedures.
* Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

* Accounts Receivable experience preferred.
* Experience in healthcare billing/coding or claims processing preferred.

Education:

* High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED).
* Some advanced education preferred.

Skills:

* Ability to handle large volumes of paperwork.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
* Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and other third-party health plan rules and regulations.
* Knowledge of HIPAA requirements.
* Strong alpha-numeric data entry skills.
* Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
* Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
* Basic mathematical skills.

Working Conditions:

* Works in an office environment independently and with others.
* Constant use of computers and other payment processing equipment.

* Rapid and frequent typing on a computer.

* Frequent multi-tasking and high volumes of work.
