Human Resources Generalist
Position Summary:
As a member of the YWCA of Monterey, the HR Generalist performs duties at the professional level in some or all of the following functional areas: staffing, HR administration, benefits, compensation, employee relations, training and development, and compliance and process development. There is an emphasis placed on providing responsive and high-quality service to employees and managers, while being sensitive to the organization's business needs and maintaining and developing the company's employee-focused learning environment.
Responsibilities:
- Compensation Administration o Assist managers to create and maintain a salary structure that supports the organization's needs and is responsive to changing conditions o Participate in salary and market surveys o Implements approved compensation changes o Monitor employee compensation, alerting management of any potential issues o Conduct FLSA analysis and maintain appropriate documentation
- Employee Relations o Recommends and monitors performance evaluation, employee recognition and other similar programs and suggests revisions as necessary o Acts as a resource to management on ongoing performance management o Make and assist in implementing recommendations to address employee performance o Along with other members of management, develops and delivers programs, such as new employee orientation, interview and selection training and benefits open enrollment o Investigate and recommend solutions for employee issues which may include harassment, discrimination and other workplace concerns o Administer leaves of absence, workers' compensation and unemployment claim programs
- Employee Administration o Performs or assists with all administration required to on-board and off-board internal employees o May assist with onboarding temporary staff (consultants) o Work closely with other departments to ensure that new team members have all tools and resources required to be effective o Protect the organization by ensuring that former employees' access is removed and equipment is returned o Maintains company organization charts and employee directory o Maintain all employee and compliance records and reporting
- Staffing and Employment o Assist in creating annual staffing plan
- Work with internal recruiting team to select and place internal employees o Writing complete and compliant job descriptions o Maintaining and enhancing the DWG employment brand o Work closely with hiring managers and executive team to create and deliver employment offers o Establishes and maintains HR and staffing activity records, statistics, and reports
- Training and Development o Ensure employees receive required training - monitor and maintain all staff hiring records o Serve as an internal resource to assist employees and managers in meeting employee development needs, making liberal use of outside resource o Provide guidance to management for developing profession & managerial talent, soliciting advice from outside consultants as appropriate
- Compliance and Policy Development o Develops, recommends, and implements HR procedures o May recommend and implement HR policies. Consults with senior management and outside counsel and consultants to develop HR policies o Prepares and maintains handbook on policies and procedures o Ensure that the organization is compliant with all HR concerns related regulation o Act as a resource to managers and employees regarding employment, payroll regulations, and best practices o Works with others to maintain a safety program, including an Injury and Illness Prevention Plan and Emergency Action Plan
- Completes special projects and other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, MS Outlook and Gmail
- Proficiency with Applicant Tracking Systems, HR databases and/or payroll systems
- Professional demeanor, with the ability to develop and maintain rapport with a variety of people
- Must be organized, maintaining a sense of urgency, while being detail-oriented
- Ability to multitask, prioritize work, handle interruptions, and meet deadlines
- Strong customer service skills, being empathetic and firm when communicating
- Ability and desire to work independently
- Ability to balance competing priorities
Experience/Education:
- 6 - 8 years' experience in an HR generalist role in a medium sized organization
- 4+ years of HR experience supporting California based employees is required
- Experience in staffing industry desired
- Experience with high employee transaction volume strongly desired (new hires, terms, changes)
- High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred
- PHR or SHRM-CP certification is a plus
Physical Requirements:
Frequent sitting, keyboarding, standing, and walking. Work may require extended time on the telephone or conducting one on one or small group meetings. Occasional presentations to large groups (20+) may be required.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $27.00 - $32.00 per hour
