POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director Research Program Management will drive the planning, resourcing and execution of our research roadmap, will support and grow a successful team-based corporate culture, and will manage a team of Research Program Managers.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Ensure execution of research program deliverables, on time and on budget
• Coordinate with Research Leadership to define program road map and related projects inclusive of goals, objectives, timing, and resource needs
• Lead the detailed planning of research timelines and resource requirements, highlighting tradeoffs and co-dependencies
• Recruit, train, manage and develop a diverse team of Program Managers, who can each lead individual research teams to success and grow within the organization
• Focus on developing high-performing cross-functional teams
• At the individual research program level, work with Program Managers to identify critical path, bottlenecks, dependencies, and major risks to the programs
• Facilitating the technology transfer from research to development teams
• Implement training and best practices for the Research Program Management team
• Track staffing across the Research organization, in conjunction with functional managers
• Identify bottlenecks and risks across the Research organization, which add risk to the overall roadmap
• Communicate the corporate strategy and project priorities across the R&D organization, to ensure alignment of all teams and functions
• Measure and report key performance indicators (KPI) that track progress on the key deliverables, and communicate regularly to senior executive team
• Facilitate research program and process-based process improvements for planning, tracking and reporting research projects.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• PhD or Master's degree in health sciences, including biology, chemistry or engineering
• Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Biology or a comparable educational background
• Minimum 8 years of Program Management leadership experience, with track record of success developing highly technical regulated products in the biotech industry, preferably
molecular diagnostics
• Minimum 10 years of experience working within cross-functional scientific/R&D teams
• Experienced and inspiring team leader, with track record of recruiting top talent
• Experienced with project management tools such as MS Project, Smartsheets or equivalent
• PMP certification or equivalent is required
• Strong knowledge of product development processes from concept to launch, including under Design Control.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
• Excellent interpersonal skills in addition to having the ability to effectively communicate within the project teams
• Clear and persuasive communicator, written and verbal, and careful listener with excellent facilitation skills
• Eagerness to roll up the sleeves and dive into details when necessary
• Very proactive and able to take substantial initiative. Ability to handle multiple complex projects while tracking all details and their completion
• Proven organizational skills and attention to detail
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• Duties are typically performed in an office setting. This position requires the ability to use a computer keyboard, communicate over the telephone and read printed material.
• Duties may require working outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends) at times.
