Position Overview:
Oportun is looking to expand its world-class and highly experienced Legal and Compliance team with the addition of an experienced structured finance attorney. The ideal candidate is mission-driven, thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys transactional work and working collaboratively with others as a strategic partner. This role will report to the Senior Vice President, Deputy General Counsel & Corporate Secretary, and will work closely with Oportun's Capital Markets & Treasury Team, as well as numerous other business partners throughout Oportun. Responsibilities:
Evaluate potential transactions and negotiate and draft operative documents and disclosure for asset-backed securitizations, warehouse loan facilities, whole loan sales and other financing transactions for the Company's various product lines
Provide guidance from a legal perspective from deal inception to execution and maintenance
Manage statutory and contractual obligations arising from those transactions
Advise business clients on legal issues and risks, company policies, and strategy
Assist with current, quarterly, and annual SEC reporting obligations with respect to the Company's structured finance transactions
Oversight of engagements of rating agencies and accountants
Qualifications:
J.D. from an accredited law school
10+ years of structured finance experience at a top law firm and/or large asset-backed issuer
Experience independently managing all legal aspects of structured finance transactions; experience in consumer lending transactions, in particular personal loans and/or credit card preferred
Experience with interest rate swaps and related derivatives matters a plus
Ability to work independently, with minimal oversight, think creatively and flexibly, and provide practical legal solutions and concrete, easy to understand legal advice
Ability to manage multiple internal stakeholders and balance differing opinions and perspectives
Strong verbal and analytical skills
Exceptional interpersonal skills
Highly team-oriented
Solid business acumen
Ability to manage several simultaneous projects under deadline pressure
Member in good standing of the State Bar in the state of residence
