Fate Therapeutics is seeking a talented and highly motivated individual skilled in molecular biology that will be a key member of the Molecular Engineering team. The primary functions of this role will include leading a small team in executing quality-controlled Molecular Biology procedures in service of our company and purpose. The ideal candidate will collaborate regularly and have a strong conceptual understanding of molecular biology and genetics and hands-on experience in analytical molecular biology techniques. This position is team-oriented and will require adherence to tight deadlines, independent and collaborative project management abilities, a high level of organization, and communicate effectively across multidisciplinary teams. This is a full-time, hands-on position that reports to a Scientist in the Molecular Engineering group and is located at the Companys corporate headquarters in San Diego, California.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor junior Research Associates to support the team in executing molecular based screening assays for Master Cell Bank generation. Execution of molecular laboratory biology processes, including, but not limited to: Traditional PCR, qPCR, RT-qPCR, and ddPCR o Analysis of Sanger sequencing results o DNA and RNA extraction o Nucleic acid quantification and qualification via QuBit, NanoDrop, and TapeStation o
- Enroll and complete quality-controlled documents (SOPs) when executing molecular based assays under general guidance from direct supervisor
- Organize and support in document review, data entry, and data analysis
- Manage controlled forms and data archival
- Assist in the implementation of GxP compliant procedures and operations to ensure a robust quality management system as well as regulatory requirements
Qualifications:
- B.S./M.S. in molecular biology or related discipline with a minimum of 5 years of laboratory experience. Industry experience preferred
- 3+ years of demonstrated hands-on experience of molecular biology techniques (e.g., traditional PCR, gel electrophoresis, qPCR, restriction digests, and DNA/RNA isolation and quantification)
- Experience leading and managing junior Research Associates
- Expertise with PCR and qPCR is required; experience with droplet-digital PCR is preferred
- Experience in working with cGMP compliant/quality-controlled procedures is strongly preferred
- Excellent organizational skills with record keeping abilities
- Experience working with document management system software is strongly preferred
- Demonstrated success in working in a cross-functional team environment
- Comfortable in a fast-paced small company environment and able to adjust workload based upon changing priorities
- Ability to perform experiments in a high-throughput manner
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
- Will require working with blood and cell lines of human and animal origin
- Will require working with hazardous materials
- 100% on-site work at corporate headquarters in San Diego, CA
- Occasional evening and weekend work will be required
