The Opportunity: Axos is expanding our Commercial Real Estate Specialty Lending Group (CRESL) and is looking for an Assistant Vice President to support the growth of the organization. The CRESL division specializes in originating, underwriting and structuring highly complex commercial real estate transactions across the United States. With transaction sizes up to $200 million and a particular focus on transitional real estate and construction loans, the role provides an opportunity to establish relationships with highly sophisticated counter-parties, develop structuring skills, and manage a deal team.
Responsible for overseeing the vetting, underwriting and structuring of new commercial real estate lending opportunities. Additional scope of responsibilities includes participating in legal negotiations, managing communication with counter-partiesand brokers, and managing a team comprised of 2-3 Analysts.
The Role:
- Review loan opportunities to assess credit quality and feasibility with the banks lending programs
- Recommend loan terms and structures tailored specifically to individual financing opportunities and counter-parties
- Directly manage the due diligence and underwriting process for new loan opportunities
- Assist senior management in the review and negotiation of legal documentation
- Identify key risk issues and recommend action plans to re-mediateconcerns
- Discuss loan level concerns with deal leads and credit personnel
- Ensure credit memorandums and supporting documentation is comprehensive, complete and supportive of findings and conclusions
- Manage and train new analysts on core commercial estate lending fundamentals, including proforma analysis, cash flow modeling, due diligence review and the drafting of credit memorandums
- Establish, maintain and grow relationships with brokers and counter-partiesto drive repeat business
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Real Estate, Economics, Accounting, Mathematics, or related field
- 4+ years' in commercial real estate banking as an underwriter, portfolio manager, or relationship manager or finance
- Commercial real estate bridge and construction lending
- Superior analytical and modeling skills capable of generating fully integrated cash flow models
- Spread financial statements and provide clear and concise written financial analysis supporting your views of the borrowers financial condition
- Strong origination, risk, and structuring
- High energy, intellectual curiosity, and ability to work in a demanding environment
- Dedicated work ethic and self-starter
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word
- Familiar with:
- CoStar and other CRE data providers
- Salesforce
- Core legal documents in a commercial real estate transaction (Mortgage, Loan Agreement, Promissory Note, Guarantee)
- Entity legal structures and formation documents (LLCs, Trusts, Partnerships, Corporations)
- Loan closing process (Title, Title Policies, Escrow, Funding)
- Banking rules and regulations
- Masters
