The Cost Accounting Manager will play a key role in Element Biosciences' growing finance and accounting team. The ideal candidate will have experience in a fast-paced private or public company environment and has demonstrated experience implementing and maintaining inventory accounting policies and procedures and providing ongoing accounting and FP&A support relating to inventory and manufacturing operations.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Development of the cost accounting methodology and KPI reporting for inventory & COGS reporting (P&L)
- Maintain accurate costing methodology in an ERP and manual system
- Maintain standard cost system to ensure accuracy of inventory valuation and lead annual manufacturing cost standard updates and analyze variances to standard costs
- Monitor inventory transactions including; intercompany inventory transactions and processes including scrap, inventory, and COGs, to ensure accuracy and compliance with Finance policies
- Monthly manufacturing and overhead variance research, analysis, and reporting, including labor/overhead absorption by-product lines
- Prepare monthly revenue & associated gross margin analysis by product/SKU level analysis
- General ledger reconciliation responsibility for all inventory and cost of goods sold accounts
- Prepare inventory reserves and ensure compliance with periodic cycle counts and physical inventory and reconcile results
- Provide support to the FP&A team by forecasting/modeling quarterly absorptions based on production plan as well as purchase price variances, scrap rates, material variances, etc.
- Participate in the annual budgeting process, including preparation of standard costs
- Drive the development of procedures and controls that ensure meaningful and reliable product costs and accurate inventory balances
- Comprehensive understanding of manufacturing variances, overhead absorption, and standard costs
- Excellent computer skills including advanced MS Excel (e.g., Pivot Tables, V-Lookups, data merges, filters, and IF statements) and MS Word experience, are required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate with a variety of other functional areas including operations, material planning, and warehouse teams
- Demonstrates high energy with the ability to remain flexible and change priorities in a challenging and fast-paced environment
- Excellent professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills required
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and SOX 404
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or related field, with a minimum 5-8 years of experience using a "standard cost" model in the manufacturing industry or related relevant experience (an equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered)
- 2 to 3 years public accounting experience preferred
- Experience with ERP systems, NetSuite is a plus
- Detailed experience with inventory and COGS accounts reconciliations and related accounting
- Experience with month-end closing and working in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with inventory cycle count process
