The Leidos Innovations Center has an immediate opening for an Electrical Engineer to work in our Rancho Bernardo office in San Diego, CA. This is an exciting opportunity to leverage your experience to develop and produce advanced nuclear detection, radiography equipment, chemical and biological sensing instruments, and satellite sensor systems. Emphasis is on research and development with activities ranging from support of early scientific research to transitioning technology to production.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Integrate, test, develop, and design all power electronics aspects of Chemical, Biological, Radiation, Nuclear, and Space sensor systems for federal government customers.
  • Collaborate in engineering product development, testing, and scientific research activities. Contribute to design reviews and present designs for review.
  • Work independently and use judgement to perform engineering task with uncertain and evolving requirements.
  • Use judgment to perform technical troubleshooting and diagnosis of failed equipment and support root cause analysis.
  • Ownership of power electronics designs and system power distribution including power input to the system (AC-DC), power regulation to downstream system components (DC-DC), power filtering (noise suppression), high power motor control circuits, and battery management modules for systems operating in the kW to uW range. Additional task areas may be assigned as necessary.
  • Ownership of tasks from ideation through implementation and test.
  • Perform data analysis and contribute to technical reports.

Basic Qualifications

  • B.S. degree or higher in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related field and 4+ years of relevant experience as an engineer in an R&D environment or Master's degree with 2+ years of prior relevant experience.
  • Well-organized, reliable, attention to detail, demonstrated personal initiative. Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload. Good interpersonal skills and ability to coordinate work with others. Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with cross-functional R&D development teams.
  • Motivated self-starter able to work under minimal supervision and an entrepreneurial approach to roles and responsibilities.
  • Able to build BOM's and assembly work instructions as well as work with engineering technicians to implement and test system components.
  • Experience with definition, setup, characterization and testing of complex systems, including design of experiments, reliability life tests, and root cause analysis.
  • 0-15% travel to customer sites as required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher preferred.
  • Experience leading small teams on projects or tasks.
  • Experience in any of the following: Design, integration, and test of system power distribution, motor (AC/DC) control electronics, control systems, rotating machinery control systems, precision motion systems, circuit and PCB design (Altium preferred), battery management modules, system engineering, technical project planning, and/or biotechnology.
  • Current active Secret level clearance or higher.
