Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Mental Health Clinician is responsible for assessing and providing behavior intervention and therapy services to adults with co-occurring substance use disorders.


1. Evaluates client assessments and intake information that is completed by a SUD Counselor.

2. Establish/verifies medical necessity and approves client treatment placement using ASAM criteria.

3. Determines Substance Use Disorder Diagnosis based on DSM IV.

4. Approves client treatment plans and treatment plan updates.

5. Develop individualized intervention plans that incorporate the behavior/emotional needs of the client and address other factors affecting the client such as substance abuse and domestic violence.

6. Ensures medical records are maintained according to quality improvement guidelines and other contract requirements.

7. Consults with and refers to other community, social, health and welfare agencies.

8. Participate as a team member in administering internal and external rules and program standards in order to support client progress toward identified goals.

9. Perform other duties as assigned by direct and executive management.

10. Provides Case Management and Group Counseling as needed.

11. Performs drug testing urinalysis specimen collections and screening as required.


Education/Experience:

  • Therapy and Counseling at the Master's level -principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions, in both an individual and group environment.
  • At minimum, a Master's Degree in counseling, psychology or social work from an accredited university is required.
  • At least 2 years' experience in a clinical setting, preferably working with clients with co-occurring substance use disorders
  • Licensed or License Eligible with the State of California MFT or LCSW or other relevant counseling credential.
  • SUD Certified highly desired
  • Ethics and standards relevant to client/staff interactions in therapeutic, case management, and/or health and human services environments. Bilingual Spanish preferred
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred.


Licenses & Certifications

  • Must pass criminal background check, including LiveScan fingerprinting.
  • Valid California driver's license and automobile insurance desirable but not required; MUST have access to reliable transportation.
  • Must have CPR certification or be willing to acquire on the job.
  • Must have medical clearance certifying absence of TB.
  • Free from debarment.
  • Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination.
