JOB SUMMARY:

Vir Biotechnology is seeking a Manager in Laboratory Operations to support the needs of the expanding Vir San Francisco facility. The rolewill contribute to the daily operations of laboratories where infectious disease research is conducted. This includes, but is not limited to: monitoring inventory of reagents and consumables, removing hazardous waste from the labs, adhering to and enforcing laboratory safety regulations, managing maintenance and calibration of equipment, and shipping materials and other critical reagents between internal and external collaborators. The Manager will be part of a multidisciplinary team and work closely with scientists in San Francisco as well as Laboratory Operations personnel across sites as well as members of the Vir Environmental Health and Safety team.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES:

    • Guides daily consumable supply stocking and ordering as well as shipping and receiving at the Vir San Francisco site.
    • Ensures effective operation of all laboratory equipment and serves as point of contact for instrument repair, maintenance, and calibration.
    • Participates in vendor negotiations, product and software evaluations, tutorials, and facility modifications.
    • Collaborates with environmental health and safety and acts as a liaison between departments and the scientific staff to ensure safety compliance.
    • Provides technical input to procurement, finance, and other functional areas.


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
    • Preferred education: BA/BS or Associate's with additional lab experience.
    • 3+ years of experience in a laboratory operations role preferably in either the pharmaceutical or biotech industries.
    • Working knowledge of chemical and biological hazards and waste handling.
    • Familiarity with proper procedures for the packaging and labeling of hazardous materials in compliance with Department of Transportation regulations.
