Job description
The Senior Planning Analyst functions as part of the Decision Support Team within the Strategy & Business Development Department. The incumbent is responsible for providing insightful information that facilitates high-quality strategic and business decision-making by Sutter Health and its affiliates. This includes utilizing advanced knowledge of healthcare planning, consulting, business development and strategic planning methodologies, quantitative analysis techniques and state-of-the-art software technologies in a proactive manner to efficiently produce high-quality end products that meet the needs of those individuals supported by the Decision Support Team and the S&BD department. The Senior Planning Analyst is expected to synthesize information from a variety of sources, design and build sophisticated models, formulate hypotheses, provide interpretation/draw conclusions and suggest alternatives. This individual is also responsible for effectively packaging end results so that they are most useful to end-users. Serving in a team leadership role on some projects, the Senior Planning Analyst works effectively in a group environment and helps to increase the knowledge and skills of fellow team members.
Qualifications:
Education
Bachelor's Required. Master's preferred. A degree in Business Administration or Healthcare Administration is preferred. For applicants with degrees not related to Business or Healthcare Administration, significant specialized course work or experience in statistics, quantitative methods, finance, accounting and data systems, is required or equivalent education/experience.
Experience
Requires significant analytical experience in planning, business development, marketing, or finance is and the demonstrated ability to lead and successfully work with teams.
Strong computer software skills are necessary, including MS Office products and Tableau required.
Extensive experience in the health care strategy and business planning is highly preferred.
Well-developed problem-solving, quantitative and modeling skills, including the ability to undertake sophisticated financial, marketing and statistical analyses are required.
Advanced level experience in all or most of the following areas is desired: utilizing database tools for research and analysis; building dashboard and sophisticated data models; using statistical techniques to provide information solutions; maintaining competitive intelligence systems, deploying and utilizing decision support tools in a healthcare environment; operating mapping software.
The ability to work within tight deadlines and changing priorities is required.
Skills and Knowledge
Significant knowledge and understanding of quantitative methods, statistics, information technology concepts and technologies is required.
Strong finance and accounting background is preferable.
Understanding of and experience in strategic planning and business planning processes required.
Knowledge of the Northern California healthcare industry and health care trends is preferred.
A strong understanding of data structures and the database transaction/analytical relational database model is preferred.
Knowledge of current technology and how it is best utilized in designing systems and implementing applications is desired.
Knowledge of mapping software desired.
Familiarity with market research concepts is preferred.
Knowledge of health care operations and structure, department-specific policies and procedures and workflow is preferred.
Superior organizational skills and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously in a rapidly changing environment, while delivering quality service are required.
Creative problem identification, conceptual, and contingency thinking skills are required.
The ability to work well with individuals from a variety of healthcare departments with diverse levels of decision support knowledge is required.
Strong interpersonal skills; the ability to maintain a high level of energy and creativity; and a commitment to providing exceptional customer service are required.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a commitment to detail and accuracy are required.
The ability to convey complex technical concepts; to translate complex data into simple, written and graphic presentations; and the ability to communicate technical issues and solutions in business terms are required.
The ability to work independently and as part of a team, to have a positive attitude, and to be willing to learn new skills is required.
The ability to use project management and other professional software tools is required.
