The Research and Development Group at ProteinSimple, a Bio-Techne brand, is seeking an innovative and experienced Staff Scientist to join our growing team on our mission to develop game-changing analytical instrumentation. As a part of the Product Development Team, you will work among other innovative, supportive engineers and scientists that have a passion for product development and a knack for disrupting the way people typically characterize their proteins. In this role, you will be significantly involved in product development from concept to commercialization, delivering cutting edge technologies to our global customer base.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently design and perform complex experiments to improve existing products and/or develop new products with minimal supervision
  • Use considerable independence, judgement, and creativity in identifying new areas of opportunity and technologies to drive new product development
  • Scientific lead on projects to guide activities within and across departments
  • Work closely with R&D Science, Engineering, Software, and Manufacturing teams to develop, validate, and release new products
  • Solve technology and development challenges through meticulous characterization and troubleshooting
  • Lead cross-functional project teams for new product introductions (NPIs) with defined timelines and milestones
  • Assist with manufacturing process transfer and design and execute verification/validation plans
  • Critically analyze complex data, interpret and present results
  • Prepare summaries and reports. Present findings and establish priorities for projects.
  • Directly supervise and train junior scientists and/or research associates
  • Serve as subject matter expert and align project activities with customer requirements


Qualifications

Education and Experience:
  • Ph.D. in a related field and minimum of 8-10 years of related experience is required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong technical skills to create new products that require a high degree of complexity
  • Experience in reagent and biotechnology development process and verification/validation is required
  • Understanding of analytical system and instrument development is a plus
  • Ability to work on complex projects independently and collaboratively
  • Self-motivated and willingness to take on new challenges
  • Experience developing assays and metrics to support process optimization and troubleshooting
  • Familiar with protein separation methods (e.g., LC, cIEF, CE-SDS, microfluidics, electrophoresis) is desired
  • Knowledge of immunoassays (e.g., ELISA, western blot) and protein characterization assays is preferred
  • Knowledge of surface and polymer chemistry is a plus
  • Outstanding documentation and organizational skills
  • Ability to balance several projects concurrently
  • Leadership and management skills are preferred
  • Ability to determine priorities for self and others
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Powerpoint, Word). Experience with JMP statistical software is a plus.
