The Associate Director, US Health & Welfare Benefits, is a key member of the Total Rewards team and is responsible for planning and directing the overall design, implementation, communication and administration of the organization's US health & welfare benefit programs, ensuring that the programs adhere to current regulations and support the organization's strategic objectives. The Associate Director, US Health & Welfare Benefits, is a proactive leader who connects to others, collaborates in order to get work done and is an empathetic listener.

As the Associate Director, US Health & Welfare Benefits, you will:

  • contribute to the evolution of Gilead's benefits philosophy
  • provide strategic direction of all US health and welfare benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, prescription, HSA/FSA, COBRA, advocacy, and onsite medical clinic, in alignment with Gilead's Total Rewards philosophy
  • provide leadership in continuing to scale the US health and welfare benefit programs as Gilead grows
  • be a sponsor and strategic partner for benefits at Gilead by making data-driven decisions, applying your deep expertise and by keeping your finger on the pulse of industry best practices, benchmarks, and the latest benefits approaches
  • oversee M&A due diligence, resource planning and integration activities for the Benefits team
  • partner with internal partners (e.g. HR Shared Services, People Technology, Information Technology) to ensure compliance with federal, state and local requirements such as ACA, COBRA, ERISA, FMLA, GDPR, and HIPAA
  • partner closely with benefits broker(s) and providers, maintaining positive relationships to deliver desired outcomes
  • regularly benchmark company programs and monitor external trends in order to proactively adjust plans and program to remain competitive
  • support with financial reports, analysis and budget preparation to maintain benefits costs and identify trends
  • lead Gilead's annual US Benefits Open Enrollment, including presentations to key leaders, employee communications, plan design changes and system changes, ensuring deadlines are met

    As an Associate Director, US Benefits, you:
  • will have managed a team with at least 2 direct reports
  • can translate vision into strategy
  • have a track record for designing, scaling and managing benefit programs through policies, processes, and systems
  • can assess and manage benefits vendors to develop strategic partnerships
  • have demonstrated experience with self-insured health plans, benefits provider negotiations, benefits program administration, benefits program design
  • has extensive experience with ERISA, COBRA, HIPPA, FMLA, ACA and other benefits compliance requirements

    Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher is required with at least 8+ years of US health and welfare benefit experience
  • Certification by recognized HR organization such as CEBS, IFEBP, SHRM or HRCI strongly preferred
