Job Description

With each new discovery and investigational drug candidate, we seek to improve the care of patients living with life-threatening diseases around the world.
Specific Responsibilities:
The Biologics Discovery group is a specialized team within the Protein Therapeutics function that is responsible for the discovery and optimization of biologic drug candidates. We seek a highly motivated Senior Associate Scientist to join this team in a newly created position. The successful candidate will use single B-cell technologies to enable antibody discovery in support of all therapeutic areas at Gilead. The candidate will also work on cross-functional teams and be a part of a functional area specializing in the discovery and screening of novel biologic modalities across several therapeutic areas.
Essential Duties and Job Functions:
In this laboratory-based role, the successful candidate will support efforts to generate novel antibody-based therapeutics through single B-cell technologies. They should have knowledge of antibody structure and function with experience in antibody discovery technologies, molecular biology, cell culture, and basic characterization assays. Additional job requirements:
- Work cross-functionally and across therapeutic areas to carry out rodent B-cell isolation, antibody molecular cloning and reformatting, and initial characterization
- Interact and collaborate with Protein Therapeutics and Data Science colleagues to support NGS-based antibody discovery and optimization efforts
- Independently design, analyze and interpret experiments to characterize the binding and functional properties of novel antibodies
- Deliver scientific presentations in lab and project team meetings
- Maintain familiarity with relevant scientific literature
Knowledge, Experience and Skills:
M.S./B.S. in biological sciences, preferably with at least 14 years of relevant professional experience and a proven track record of successful antibody discovery. Job title is flexible based on experience. An ideal candidate will have experience in most of the following areas:
- Hands-on experience in antibody discovery and development methods
- Experience with molecular biology and cloning
- Experience with biochemical assays and quantitative analysis of protein-protein binding interactions (e.g. FACS, ELISA, Octet, etc.)
- Experience with single-cell FACS sorting highly desired
- Mammalian cell culture and transient protein expression experience is a plus
- Knowledge of antibody structure/function relationships is a plus
- Prior experience with antibody sequence analysis from discovery campaigns is a plus
- Experience with high-throughput liquid handling systems is a plus (e.g. Biomek, Hamilton, etc.)
- Laboratory animal handling and immunization experience is a plus
