Job description

Saticoy Lemon Association is actively searching for an efficient, detailed and self-motivated Controller. This is a full-time position reporting to the Chief Financial Officer.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise Staff Accountants, providing positive and meaningful training, feedback and direction.
  • Review all work performed by Staff Accountants, ensuring accurate documentation, appropriate classification and appropriate and timely payment of vendors.
  • Reconcile bank accounts.
  • Prepare pool projections, periodic income reporting, advance and closing calculations and reporting.
  • Ensure appropriate payment of vendors, including insuring appropriate approval of vendors, use of purchase orders, recording of expenses and payment of Association obligations in an appropriate time frame and within Association policy.
  • Review, reconcile and adjust general ledger accounts in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Perform analysis of financial and production information in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintain fixed asset records, ensuring capitalization and depreciation is performed according to Association policy.
  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of financial and capital project budgets.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, annual and as needed financial and production reporting.
  • Prepare or obtain and appropriately archive the information to support the work and reporting generated, including authorization to do so (W-9, change of addresses, approval of adjustments).
  • Facilitate transactions relating to the leasing and return of automobiles.
  • Prepare reporting for regulatory agencies, including the USDA reporting, regulatory filings, property tax filings, use tax filings, 1099s, etc.
  • Assist with the annual financial statement audit as directed by CFO.
  • Aid in the continuing improvement of the accounting process.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the CFO.

Secondary Duties

  • Perform daily banking entries including responding to exceptions and perform secondary approvals, as necessary.
  • Review previous day pool utilization, juice tickets and inventory control for accuracy and resolve potential issues.
  • Process Sunkist shipper payments and maintain Fresh Fruit and Products accounts receivable.
  • Import sales data files and verify accuracy of quantities and pools by reconciling information in the grower accounting system against internal pallet tag records and Sunkist shipping records.
  • Compile and maintain grower information including applications and amendments. Ensure appropriate archiving and communication of information to growers.

Required Skills

  • Bi-lingual preferred

  • Strong Excel skills
  • Advanced abilities in Microsoft Office suite
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of advanced bookkeeping principles and financial analysis
  • Solid leadership and the ability to interact with others in a professional and positive manner
  • Attendance and punctuality a must

Education and Experience Requirements

  • 5 years minimum in Public Accounting in Audit


Pay Range

$80,000 to $125,000
