PROGRAM MANAGER
Biotechnology company dedicated to the research and development of novel therapeutics for the treatment of inflammatory diseases due to vascular dysfunction. The current therapeutic target is based on novel findings by the Akassoglou lab at Gladstone/UCSF that implicate fibrin as a key driver of neuroinflammation. This is an exciting chance to apply your skills as a hands-on, highly qualified and experienced biotech accounting manager to be part of a dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for project management for discovery and early development teams through continuously driving cross-functional coordination and communication and developing risk identification/mitigation strategies to ensure programs and projects are successfully executed within agreed budgets and timelines. The successful candidate will work closely with executive management, key functional leaders and project management counterparts are contract research organizations (CRO) and scientific institutions, to ensure operational capabilities within the company and manage CRO relationships, government grants, and scientific collaborations to enable effective execution of program goals and objectives. Located in Lilly Gateway Labs in South San Francisco. This brand-new facility is designed specifically for small, start-up biotech companies and offers a dynamic work environment. This position reports to the Chief Scientific Officer.
Roles and Responsibilities- Work in close collaboration with executive management, functional leaders and CRO project managers to develop and execute drug development strategies and project plans from discovery through clinical development for multiple indications
- Collaborate with the Project Team members to define, plan and schedule activities to satisfy the project objectives that enable the strategy and allow for data driven decision making
- Champion and facilitate cross functional communication to align priorities for optimal project execution
- Support CSO & CFO to build strategic planning and operations capabilities
- Develop timelines (Gantt charts) for the tracking of deliverables and task interdependencies
- Identify and communicate program risks and resource limitations allowing for the development of mitigation and contingency planning for schedule, timelines, and costs
- Collaborate with all stakeholders to continually anticipate risks and assist in developing mitigation strategies
- Facilitate and lead effective project team meetings, including the creation of effective meeting agendas and precise documentation of meeting discussion points and decisions taken
- Manage external research critical to various project goals, including developing and managing a calendar of deadlines and reporting requirements for various government grants and collaboration arrangements
- Construct and track project budgets to align with organizational financial planning
- Work with accounting to ensure proper information regarding status of various CRO activities is provided to enable a timely month-end close process
- Develop, implement and ensure adherence to operational procedures throughout the organization
- Draft timelines and various metric slides for Board and external slide decks
- Actively participate in system and process improvements, including documenting policies and procedures to streamline data gathering from all teams and external vendors
- Ensures effective communication within teams, across functions and to key stakeholders throughout the organization
- Champion best practices in Program Management, including the use of dashboards, templates, tools, and processes to drive efficiency, alignment, and effective planning
- Work in close collaboration with executive management to research and identify potential non-dilutive funding and collaboration opportunities to advance drug development
- Other projects, as assigned
- Bachelor's degree required (scientific or healthcare discipline preferred)
- PMP certification preferred
- 5+ years industry experience with demonstrated growth, with at least 3 years with direct project management experience in biotechnology or pharma industries
- Start-up company experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to manage and lead teams in drug development or similar projects
- Familiarity with the overall drug discovery and development process through clinical trial execution (at least through Phase 2) preferred
- Evidence of advanced problem-solving, innovative thinking, strategic planning to deliver creative solutions
- Ability to work collaboratively on multiple projects concurrently in a fast-paced environment with strong time management and organizational skills
- Excellent organizational, communication and analytical skills with a meticulous attention to detail
- Experience with managing collaboration and/or government grant and non-dilutive funding arrangements and reporting preferred
- Willingness and dedication to go above and beyond in pursuit of team goals
- Experience with large and small molecule therapeutics approaches preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence others and form/maintain strong relationships
- Proficient computer skills including all desktop applications; excellent skills with PowerPoint, MS Projects required
- Excellent English oral communication skills in a scientific setting is required
- Supervision experience preferred
- Team player and self-starter with the ability to act independently as well as collaboratively across the business and with all levels of the organization
- The candidate must be highly motivated; able to work independently with minimal supervision; respond to changing priorities and short lead times for multiple tasks; willingness to acquire new skills; and be able to identify problems and work toward solutions
