Job description
Mark Thomas is adding a GIS + Visual Design Specialist to our graphics and visualization team and develops material to support our planning, engineering, survey, and landscape architecture pursuits. This role works in ESRI ArcGIS Desktop and Online applications, mobile applications and evaluates/suggests other programs that provide the best solutions for our teams and translates technical data into a visual experience. This position will be responsible for creating and delivering geospatial solutions, as part of a dynamic results-oriented team, in response to our clients' requirements.
This role is open to remote work for an individual living in California due to the Ca. Professional licensed Surveyor.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
» Demonstrates and applies an understanding/knowledge-base of geospatial topics and best practices including projections, data management & version control, spatial analysis techniques, linear referencing, editing features, field data collection techniques, and GIS tools
» Creates, edits, and manages vector and raster data, and collects data from online clearinghouses
» Fulfills geospatial analyses, mapping, and application requests for internal teams and external clients
» Works with stakeholders to collect project requirements, determine client needs, communicate solutions, and maintain quality of deliverables
» Populates geospatial metadata per FGDC guidelines
» Collaborates with the graphics and visualization team to plan, develop, and deliver technical visual content
» Works with technical managers and staff to visually enhance technical images, making them more relatable, approachable, and appealing
» Collaborates with internal teams to support public engagement, transportation planning, engineering design, and grant funding pursuits
Qualifications:
» 2 years of experience in design graphics; experience working in an A/E/C firm preferred
» 3-5 years of relevant work experience in GIS using ESRI ArcGIS Desktop and Online applications and related extensions including Spatial Analyst, 3DAnalyst, and Geostatistical Analyst; relevant exposure to Adobe Illustrator and/or other graphics applications
» Experience working with ArcGIS Desktop tools including Advanced Editing, Geocoding, Georeferencing, Raster Calculators, Topology, Labeling, and Data Driven Pages
» Experience with ESRI mobile applications (Collector, Field Maps, Survey123) for GPS data collection
» Working knowledge, or willingness to learn ESRI products such as ArcGIS Urban, Story Maps, and Experience Builder
» Deadline driven; ability to be flexible with work schedule to accommodate critical deadlines
» Cartographic skills that depict a clear understanding of map composition and symbology principles
