The City of Sunnyvale is seeking self-motivated, energetic, responsible individuals interested in employment as a lifeguard, swim instructor or in aquatics programs serving the ages of 6 months to adults. The aquatic programs are held at varying locations throughout Sunnyvale. Essential Job Functions
As an Aquatics staff member, you will:
* Organize andinstruct swim lessons and other water activities;
* Supervise youth and adult water activities;
* Take attendance and test swim participants based on American Red Cross guidelines;
* Interact with children, parents, care-givers, and City staff;
* Ensure the safety and well-being of program participants through American Red Cross standards of care.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking on level, uneven and slippery surfaces, reaching, stretching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate pool equipment and tools. The position requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to monitor and communicate appropriate pool activity. The need to lift, drag, push or pull objects weighing up to 50 lbs. is also required. Some of these requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodations. Minimum Qualifications
* The minimum age is 16.
* Volunteer or paid aquatic program experience desired.
* Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and CPR for the Professional Rescuer certifications are necessary before start date. *If applicant completes Lifeguard certification with City of Sunnyvale, and works for duration of summer, then the employee may be eligible for a reimbursement of certification fees.
* Varying shifts available: (Winter/Spring) M - F between 5 am and 2:30 pm; S 6
* am - 12pm; (During summer) Mon - Sun 7:30 am - 8:30 pm.
Desirable Qualifications:
* Water Safety Instructor certification
* Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Licenses/Certificates:Possession and continued maintenance of a valid class C California driver's license and a safe driving record or the ability to supply alternate transportation as approved by the appointing authority. Application and Selection Process
