The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Endocrinology, Child Health Biostatistics Core (CHBC) has an opening for a full-time Biostatistics Research Instructor position.
Nature of Work:
- The Department of Pediatrics Section of Endocrinology has openings for a full-time Biostatistics Research Instructor. This is a key research-faculty position in the Department of Pediatrics for the Child Health Biostatistics Core (CHBC). The person in this position will work with investigators on all biostatistical aspects of the research process including the design of new studies, structuring data collection systems, data reduction and analysis, and preparation of abstracts, talks, and manuscripts. In this environment, the CHBC faculty will interact and collaborate with other biostatistics faculty on applied research projects throughout the University. The position will provide biostatistics consulting and collaboration for child health researchers at the Barbara Davis Center and in the Section of Pediatric Endocrinology.
Position Emphasis:
The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- The Research Instructor position will have three major roles:
- (1) to collaborate with Pediatric Endocrinology and other Child Health researchers on the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus as part of CHBC;
- (2) to collaborate on NIH and other Federal grant submissions;
- (3) to provide general consulting in medical data collection and analysis methodology consulting (grants, protocol review, study design, power and sample size, data analysis, abstracts, manuscripts);
- (4) to provide education on biostatistics to collaborators and trainees (students, residents, fellows).
- The position could include opportunities to teach special topic workshops or seminar series, and to perform research within applied biostatistics, leading to grant funding, accepted abstracts and publications in peer-reviewed journals. Statistical consultancy experience working with investigators at all levels, reviewing of research protocols, and statistical analysis leading to research reports/manuscripts is required; experience with DSMB reporting is desirable but not essential.
Salary and Benefits:
The salary range ( or hiring range ) for this position has been established at $80,000 to 100,000.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master of Biostatistics degree (received or imminent).
- One year of experience in biostatistical consulting, preferably in an academic setting, or in a hospital, CRO or pharmaceutical setting.
- Must successfully pass a drug test through Children's Hospital Colorado.
- Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check.
- Demonstrated experience with statistical consulting in a health care field.
- Experience with one or more DBMS such as REDCap.
- Experience with pediatric health research is also preferred.
- Technical skills required include statistical modeling (survival, logistic regression, GLM and longitudinal data analysis) a strong knowledge of SAS or R statistical software.
- Experience in study design including sample size and power estimation will be required.
- Experience with word processing and data presentation using standard packages (e.g. Word, LaTex, knitr or rmarkdown, Adobe, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Able to write up the statistical section in publications and grant applications.
- Able to handle multiple projects with various principal investigators simultaneously, within rigorous timelines.
- Work independently with minimal supervision and in a team atmosphere.
- Demonstrated experience collaborating and communicating with diverse constituencies is preferred.
