Who We Are:

Southwest Research Institute leverages its significant experience in many facets of the space science business to build and maintain high quality operations centers for unmanned space missions.


Objectives of this Role:
  • Work with small teams to develop, test, and deploy python, IDL, Davinci applications to support a variety of NASA space missions.
  • These applications support space missions by providing tools for planning mission activities, instrument telemetry data management, and spaceflight operations.
  • Review requirements, develop tests cases, execute tests, and report defects and status.
  • Work closely with the Systems Engineers and Management to ensure testing standards and guidelines are followed.
  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers to plan new features and review plans review products in development.
  • Improve Science Operations by evaluating deficiencies, new requirements, and participate in proposals for future missions
  • Work with small teams to develop, test, and deploy python, IDL, Davinci applications to support a variety of NASA space missions; applications support space missions by providing tools for planning mission activities, instrument telemetry data management, spaceflight operations.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers to plan new features and review products in development.
  • Downlink Processing (pipeline is mix of python, IDL, and Davinci).
  • Archiving (pipeline and PDS archive support tasks).
  • Database Administration (understand the tables and schema, familiarity with SQLAlchemy).
  • Data Access (user and filesystem support), Server Maintenance (physical and virtual machines), and Backups / Restores.
  • Review requirements, develop tests cases, execute tests, and report defects and status.
  • Work closely with the Systems Engineers and Management to ensure testing standards and guidelines are followed.

Requirements:
  • Requires a Bachelors with a 3.00 GPA in Aerospace Engineering, Astronomy, Computer Science, Engineering degree, Math, or Applied Math
  • 0-2 years: Academic or industry experience with spacecraft operations or data pipeline
  • 0-2 years: Academic or industry experience with python, IDL
  • 0-2 years: Familiarity with Davinci and SQLAlchemy



Special Requirements:

Work assignment is in Boulder, Colorado. Must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident due to ITAR work in section.


Job Locations: Boulder, Colorado

Salary Range: $59,883.00 - $121,784.00
