Job description
Colorado Financial Management's Financial Planning Department is devoted to building and maintaining client relationships and trust through the development and presentation of financial plans and recommendations specific to individual goals. The Planning Team is a highly collaborative department, as they work directly with Advisors and clients on a daily basis. Generally, a Financial Planner will be expected to thoroughly complete and clearly communicate a variety of plans spanning from simple to complex. This senior level role acts as a Financial Planning Expert and is tasked with producing our clients' most complex financial plans. Ability to properly prioritize, attention to detail, and a keen sense of urgency are key for this role.
Core Responsibilities
- Planning for Ultra-High-Net-Worth Clients and Complex Client Matters
- Responsible for a portion of the firm's most complex financial plans
- i.e., Complex Tax Planning and Analysis, Business Planning Matters/Succession Planning, Roth Conversion Analysis, Divorce Planning, Estate Administration Assistance, Estate Planning Reviews (complex/taxable), etc.
- One of the Firm's primary resources regarding tax inquiries
- General Financial Planning Functions
- Subject matter expert in the functionality of the firm's financial planning software (includes training of department staff, colleagues, and clients)
- Gather and enter client documents and data, including financial constraints and goals
- Develop, prepare, and present financial plans and recommendations based on findings
- Develop models to analyze client situations and easily translate the information
- Prepare income tax analyses and retirement needs plans
- Client Service
- Build and maintain client and prospect relationships in partnership with Financial Advisors and Portfolio Managers
- Liaise with client CPAs and attorneys
- Participate in client meetings; document and execute meeting follow-up as appropriate
- Conduct solo client meetings as appropriate
- Work with clients to ensure action items are thoroughly understood, executed and documented
- Analysis
- Work with various Financial Advisors to understand client objectives
- Perform various analyses: Overall asset allocation analyses, retirement projections, tax projections, Roth conversion analyses, business succession analyses, review and prepare summaries of estate plan documents, education funding analyses, Social Security analyses, review of gifting strategies and opportunities, various insurance product analyses, etc.
- Make recommendations associated with the above analyses
- Train and provide feedback to department staff on best practices associated with analysis
- Ad hoc special projects
- Complete ad hoc special projects for clients and across the firm
- Other tasks and duties as assigned

- Years of direct experience: 7+
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Demonstrated strength in high-volume and complex financial plan production
- Experience with preparing and implementing investment and financial planning recommendations
- Experience participating in client meetings
- Strong attention to detail, poised, organized, keen sense of urgency
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills
- Experience with E-Money or similar financial planning software
- Deep knowledge and professional experience in business planning matters
- CPA/former CPA and/or proven knowledge in complex tax planning
- Experience with estate administration and estate planning
- Salary: $80,000-$100,000 (FTE)
