Summary of Role
The Business Development Manager (BDM) is an Aerospace focused role responsible for building and/or growing new and/or under developed market segments, on a global basis. The BDM's primary function is to supply the sales team with the new products and materials to capture new projects and increase sales at our key customers. Identifies market opportunities and executes plans to capitalize on these opportunities, collaborating cross functionally and globally. Provides guidance in developing the core capabilities of the sales and technical organization within assigned sub-segments.
This global role requires the ability to manage global development and execution of business plans with counterparts in other geographies. At times, this role may lead certain sub-segments on a global basis.
Tasks and Responsibilities
The primary function of the Business Development Manager is to direct and help the global aerospace sales team in developing and executing growth strategies. Align business development strategies with Trelleborg's corporate strategy.
- Responsible for gaining voice of customer from the market and working collaboratively with Manufacturing, R & D, Supply Chain Management and Aerospace Marketing to develop product and service strategies to serve the market.
- This role is responsible for keeping and maintaining the Aerospace Technical Road-Map and then coordinating with Strategic Purchasing to coordinate the Aerospace Supplier Road-Map
- As part of executing those strategies the BDM is responsible for helping the Global Sales Team in identifying, developing, and closing new business. Success is measured through the execution of strategic plans through the Global Sales Team and cross-functional collaboration. The BDM also provides direction on targeted accounts within the new strategic growth areas.
- The role guides directs the activities of Product Line Directors, GGI Leaders, R&D and the Aerospace Technical team.
- Responsible for ensuring GKAM's and GGI leaders are targeting and developing accounts in conjunction with the sales team, to foster a collaborative approach.
- Ensures the Engineering and Marketing Team develop and direct competitive analysis, training, and marketing material development.
- Promote value-added service opportunities at customers that match the ServicePLUS capabilities of Trelleborg.
- Work with the Global Sales team to identify and screen acquisition opportunities.
- Report credible intelligence on customers, competitors, market size and economic trends relating to GKAM's, GGI Leaders and SE's.
- Provide expected sales forecasts, expected profits, and resource needs to develop new opportunities.
- Make recommendations for equity investments that support growth.
- Support business acquisitions and expansions for inclusion into business plans.
- Sponsor and support Title Development projects.
- Align business development strategies with Product Line Director strategies.
- Coordinate with R&D management to ensure business development needs are met.
- Coordinate with Supply Chain Management to ensure business development needs are met.
- Facilitate and work with the Technical Team to develop the overall market sub-segment offerings, unique value propositions, and utilization of ServicePLUS and other tools.
- Provide financial and strategy execution reports and updates to the BU President, Global Segment Manager(s) and the EB as required.
- Assesses gathered competitive intelligence for business impact and opportunities.

Competencies
- Sales and Marketing experience
- Strong business acumen along with a core technical background is required.
- Strong market strategy and business case skills

- Technical aptitude and or engineering experience

Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree Preferred
- 7+ years experience in technical sales, or engineering related business development required.
- Product or Segment Management experienced required.
- Experience working with Engineering and R&D teams in product development with a proven track record of commercialization required.
- Experienced in a variety of manufacturing disciplines required.
- Knowledge of plastics and elastomers preferred.
- Past Start Up and Large Corporation Experience preferred
- Strong Aerospace Experience preferred.
- Proven proficiency and experience in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Proven proficiency and experience in the use of business operational software (CRM, Oracle JDE, SAP)
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task with attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong analytical, decision making and problem solving skills
- Proven success coaching the activities of Business Development team members in developing marketing intelligence to use towards strategy
- Proven success coaching sales team in executing strategy by developing new accounts from initial planning stages to order execution.
