Nature of Work

$15.67 Lifeguard

Applicants must first pass a swim test and an oral board interview before being enrolled in training.

Non-Certified Applicants will be enrolled in the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Program. Upon successful completion, applicants will receive the Red Cross Lifeguard Certification

Assures the safe use of swimming pool facilities by observing pool customers, enforcing pool rules and regulations and providing emergency/first aid services.

May teach swimming lessons under the direction of Lifeguard/Instructor or Head Lifeguard.

Schedule:

* M-F (shifts 4pm - 9pm) 2-3 times per week
* 1-weekend shift is required
* 5-6 hours

Duties and Responsibilities

Monitors activities in swimming pool areas to prevent drowning, injuries or accidents.

Rescues swimmers in danger of drowning and administers first aid.

Maintains order in swimming pool and adjacent areas. Performs cleaning duties including, but not limited to pool, office, and deck.

Follows customer service philosophy.

Attends monthly in-service trainings.

Performs related duties as required.

Knowledge of current lifeguarding techniques and procedures related to rescue of drowning swimmers.

Knowledge of first aid procedures common in swimming pool operations.

Ability to act quickly and calmly in emergency situations by making proper judgments as to the correct course of action.

Ability to demonstrate CPR and Rescue breathing skills within certification standards.

Sufficient physical strength and conditioning to rescue swimmers in danger of drowning regardless of situation and even if possible drowning victim resists rescue efforts.

Ability to enforce pool safety rules firmly and courteously with the public.

Ability to work courteously with the public and support the City of Northglenn's Customer Service philosophy

Represents the City of Northglenn in a positive, professional manner to the community

Education and Experience

Must be at least 15 years of age.

Will provide training - Lifeguard Training, CPR and First Aide

Must pass an interview and the course, in order to be hired.

Supplemental Information

Selected candidates must be able to:

Swim 300 yards continuously, with breath control and rhythmic breathing. You may not swim on your side and back. Goggles are allowed.

Tread water for 2 minutes using only your legs.

Complete a timed event within 1 minute and 40 seconds.

* Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. Swim Goggles are not allowed.
* Surface dive, feet first or head first, to a depth of 7-10 feet to retrieve a 10 pound object.
* Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on your back to return to the starting point, both hands holding the object at or near the surface so you can still breath. You are not allowed to swim under water.
* Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
* Interview Process - Pre-Requisite Swim Test & In-Person Interview
* Online LG Training Class - 7 Hours
* 2 In-Person Class Sessions - 9 Hours on the Weekend
* 2 Final Exams - CPR/1st Aid/AED & Lifeguarding Skills
* We are looking for a minimum of 10 hours a week
* More likely to be 10 - 15 hrs

Selected candidate will be required to complete and pass a background investigation and drug/alcohol screen.
