About the Antarctic Support Contract:

Leidos Antarctic Support Contract (ASC) is the prime contractor to the National Science Foundation (NSF) in support of the United States Antarctic Program (USAP). Leidos supports the NSF's Office of Polar Program's Antarctic Infrastructure and Logistics by aligning with their Mission and Vision Statements:

• Vision: Expanding our scientific reach in Antarctica through increased operational and logistical effectiveness.
• Mission: To provide the operational and logistical platform necessary for the U.S. to conduct world-class science in Antarctica and maintain its active and influential presence on the continent.
• Leidos ASC provides science and logistics support for approximately 150 science and technical events across three geographically remote research stations; McMurdo Station, Palmer Station, and South Pole Station and several deep field sites across Antarctica. Each station or field site supports world class research across multiple science disciplines. The planning and implementation of science support requirements in Antarctica is a critical part of our mission.

Job Description:

The S&TPS McMurdo Implementation Manager will join the Science and Technical Project Services (S&TPS) implementation team within the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC). This role works directly with research teams funded to perform remote work in Antarctica, ensuring they successfully complete their research objectives by aligning resources per the research and field plan. This position ensures that the projects are executed on time and within the scope of the project plan. This role tracks and reports on support metrics.

The position reports to the ASC Leidos Science Implementation Manager.

This is a full time position based in Centennial, Colorado with an annual deployment to McMurdo Station, Antarctica. Deployment is estimated to be 2 - 4 months per season.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

• Primary ASC implementer for assigned and funded McMurdo based science events to include associated grantee (scientist) support in order to facilitate NSF objectives.
• Serve the direct supervisor for the McMurdo Research Associate who is responsible for maintaining installed grantee instrumentation.
• Serve as the direct supervisor for the Crary Laboratory Supervisor and the McMurdo-based Crary Laboratory staff who support onsite grantee research.
• Serve as the direct supervisor for The Long Duration Balloon (LDB) Facility Manager who supports operations for high altitude scientific balloon launches.
• Coordination with ASC planners, project managers, work centers, and the McMurdo Area Management in order to support grantee objectives.
• Ensuring that science events scope is in-line with NSF authorization and facilitate requested scope changes between science teams, ASC, and NSF. Coordinate with S&TPS planners if current season changes will affect out-year activities.
• Timely identification of science support issues within ASC and NSF in order to facilitate resolution before issues become an impediment to project success.
• Preparation for science meetings and reviews, management of all McMurdo Area science Research Support Plans (RSP) including attending various meetings in support of those objectives for understanding programmatic interdependency.
• Coaches, reviews and delegates work to staff accordingly.
• Working with S&TPS planners and station area managers to ensure integrated out year annual support.
• Leads science status reviews to track science logistical progress of Continental events bi-weekly while deployed and weekly during austral summer planning.
• Working collaboratively with the Field and South Pole S&TPS Implementation managers, as well as other department work centers for integrated support.
• Participation in proposal reviews coordinated by planners and review Operational Notices.
• Assisting grantees with participant changes, on-ice flights, and other transportation and cargo requirements.
• Interacting with National Science Foundation, their sub-contracting agencies, military personnel and other organizations in a professional and tactful manner.
• Will deploy to McMurdo Station for the austral summer season and act as on-ice science support lead in rotation with the Field and S&TPS Implementation Manager as flights allow.
• Maintaining and actively facilitating a safe and inclusive workplace.
• Ensuring that S&TPS support meets contract obligations in a manner that meets or exceeds the customer's (NSF) needs and expectations.
• Ensuring that S&TPS support activities are performed in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, standards and codes imposed by the Antarctic Treaty and the U.S. Government.
• Managing complex tasks under tight budgets and time constraints.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in a related science or technical discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 8+ years of professional experience in a similar role; or Master's degree in related discipline with 6+ years of professional experience.
• Minimum 4 years in polar science support or equivalent remote environment.
• Able to adapt to changing schedules and priorities.
• Experience leading change efforts and implementing new systems or processes.
• Strong leadership, management and organizational and communications skills.
• Ability to interact with National Science Foundation, research scientists, military and other agency officials in a professional and tactful manner.
• Should possess deep knowledge of discipline and ability to manage and execute highly complex or specialized projects or processes.
• Ability to review and understand scientific proposals; write and review scientific and technical documents.
• Must be a strong team leader and player with the ability to integrate Implementation team with other groups.
• Ability to assign and track work, maintain schedules, and train staff.
• Must be a US Citizen or green card holder.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in logistical support to include documentation, expediting, and tracking.
• Experience with field work, science support, or remote logistical support.
• PMP certification or experience equivalent.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The individual in the position must successfully complete the physical and dental examinations as required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica. Failure to meet these requirements may result in withdrawal of employment offer or other employment action. Must be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance.

Pay Range: Pay Range $78,000.00 - $120,000.00 - $162,000.00
