Job description

Provides overall credit underwriting related to borrowing relationships.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that all activities and work functions comply with compliance requirements as defined in company policies and procedures and state/federal laws and regulations.
  • Collaborates with Banker on appropriate structuring of credit.
  • Provides credit analysis consistent with published content expectations including but not limited to the following: borrowing purpose; borrowing structure; management ability; economic/market conditions; industry analysis/trends; financial condition; management projections; cash flow (management, base case and downside scenarios); collateral; guarantor/recourse; strengths and weaknesses/mitigants; and risk rating rationale.
  • Helps with vetting new requests, including assisting with preflight memorandums for new loan transactions, along with preparing credit presentations, and other reporting/memoranda as directed.
  • Prepares and completes credit renewals and annual reviews for line of business.
  • Interacts with Bankers, branch/market/regional presidents and credit approval authorities.
  • Actively provides mentoring and/or training to more junior analysts within the underwriting group.
  • Ensures bank's credit risk is routinely and proactively managed.
  • Participates in prospect and/or client relationship meetings, as needed.
  • Routinely attends banker meetings and fully engages in on-going credit training.
  • Balanced focus on the quantity of credits underwritten relative to increasingly more complex underwritings in timeframes noted in service level agreement ("SLA") expectations, holding themselves accountable to qualitative and quantitative criteria.
  • Handles routine customer interactions and less complex issues independently. Customer contact involving complex or sensitive issues occur jointly with manager or lender.
  • Supports departmental and company-wide initiatives, including the "one and done" credit approval process.
  • Independently sponsors basic or routine credits. Presented more complex credits with moderate involvement of manager or relationship manager.
  • Collaborates with and serves as an underwriting resource to skilled bankers.
  • Actively mentors credit analysts and bankers and may direct deal flow, vetting process and approvals in the credit underwriting manager's absence.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Four year college degree or equivalent
  • 5+ years commercial bank credit underwriting/portfolio management experience
  • Thorough knowledge of credit underwriting including strong technical skills, bank policies and procedures, laws and regulations, and compliance
  • Demonstrated capacity to handle complex analysis with minimal oversight
  • Ability to build personal credibility with credit approval authorities
  • Possess significant accounting and finance knowledge
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to critically think, formulate and support credit decisions, and logically defend positions
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate on behalf of the Bank and the borrower while appropriately balancing risk and shareholder value
  • Ability to work and lead in a team environment and demonstrate flexibility as business dictate
  • Proven ability to communicate verbally and in-writing with internal/external constituents
  • Ability and willingness to investigate, resolve and recommend process improvement opportunities
  • Knowledge and understanding of bank rules and regulations, BSA, KYC, CRA, compliance
  • Knowledge of overall bank products and services

Preferred

  • Advanced college degree
  • Formal C& I credit underwriting training
  • Advanced knowledge of loan documentation on complex credits.
  • Banking/Finance certifications through ABA, Center for Financial Training, Omega Training and/or equivalent

In accordance with Colorado law: Colorado pay for this position is anticipated to be between $69,600.00 - $111,400.00 annually, actual offers to be determined based on applicant's skills, experience and education.
