Job description
The EH&S Engineer will serve as the site specialist in environmental, health and safety for East Granby, Connecticut. The EH&S Engineer will drive the safety culture by gaining the respect of the workforce while utilizing tools to produce results. The EH&S Engineer will develop and carry out procedures within the organization that effectively control environmental, health and safety exposures in the company and minimize compliance issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Guide and assist company personnel in all aspects of environmental, health and safety. Serve as chairperson for the safety committee with local compliance requirements
- Coordinate site wide EH&S council with management team to ensure conformance with MB Aerospace Corporate Policies, Federal, State and Local regulations.
- Build relationships with all levels of the organization to ensure a cross-functional safety culture.
- Conduct root cause corrective action investigations in conjunction with applicable personnel. Notify top management of pertinent details.
- Evaluate hazardous conditions and practices and develop hazard control practices and programs.
- Assist all company personnel in an effort to help them understand OSHA regulations and standards, including guidance on how to handle OSHA compliance, inspections, and citations.
- Review company accident statistics and makes recommendations based on data.
- Plan and direct safety and industrial hygiene services and monitor required testing.
- Work with environmental compliance and professional organizations to maintain current permits, certifications and records.
- Assess new developments in the environmental, health and safety field that may have application to the company's operations.
- Complete Hazwopper and RCRA compliance training and certification.
- Ensure all EH&S training is complete and current such as, but not limited to, first aid, respirator and first responder.
- Establish and maintain KPI's for long-range incident prevention in the areas of environmental, health and safety.
- Maintain OSHA log with input from the Human Resources Manager.
- Institute an internal audit and compliance program to measure the effectiveness of the EH&S management system.
- Manage sub-contracted environmental engineering firm to budget levels, insource activities where appropriate.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health or similar relevant field
- Previous working experience as Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator for 3-5 years
- In-depth knowledge of Health, Safety and/or Environmental policy
- Hands-on experience with performing audits and writing reports
- Excellent organizational time-management skills
- Great interpersonal and communication skills
- ASP, CSP or CIH certification or ability to obtain is preferred
- Read and interpret processes, procedures, and governmental regulations, write reports, effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees and compliance agencies.
