We are currently seeking a Software Engineering Manager to manage development team members that are implementing our current and next generation of registration software products and services.

  • Manages multiple software development projects that may impact one or more business units. Effectively leads teams of software developers and/or managers through Dealertracks Product Development Life Cycles (PDLCs). Understands and follows Dealertracks Software Development Life Cycles (SDLCs) to implement product roadmaps and project plans to meet required goals and deadlines. Actively participates in and/or manages all phases of projects including requirements, design, construction, unit testing, QA testing, deployment and on‐going maintenance. Manages quality of software development to minimize risks and ensure that the deployed code is fully functional, efficient, scalable and robust. Participates in implementing C RTS software architecture that integrates software products offered by Dealertrack. Has good knowledge of Dealertracks RTS business, including business goals, revenue targets and can articulate the business value of the technology solutions he/she is responsible for.
  • Dealertracks Registration and Titling Services Solutions Unit (RTS) is the leading provider of electronic motor vehicle registration and titling services for automobile dealerships, lease and rental companies, registration services, and financial institutions nationwide.
  • This manager will manage multiple agile development teams following the CAFé development methodology (SAFE). This individual will oversee daily software development team activities; provide technical leadership to team activities including analysis, design, construction and quality assurance; work closely with key development stakeholders and management peers; drive high quality, on time delivery; ensure the teams actively pursue the proper balance of product initiatives, technical debt and enterprise enablers; coach team members and deliver reports/communications to upper and peer management teams.

Essential Functions:

  • Agile champion that provides technical leadership and coaching in the teams software development activities. Establishes partnerships with internal customers including Product Managers, Quality Assurance, Release Train Delivery, Engineers and Systems Architects. [35%]
  • Creates and/or reviews technical assessments, rough order of magnitudes and high level requirements for assigned projects. Works with the customer‐facing organizations to produce final specifications
  • Supervises progress of all major aspects of development and provides leadership/assistance to launch of products and service offerings
  • Appropriately delegates project tasks and provides guidance to build strong leadership and team skills within the project teams.
  • Drive delivery of products and services that meet business goals and financial objectives
  • Works closely with peer Engineering Managers to manage cross team dependencies as well as monitor and address accumulating technical debt
  • Ensures appropriate hiring, onboarding, training/cross training, establishes and evaluates team member performance, promotions, salary actions and terminations.
  • May also be responsible for tasks/activities as assigned by senior management.
Qualifications:

The minimum qualifications- Bachelors degree and 6 years software engineering experience with 3 years in relevant technologies (AWS, Java, Angular JS); Demonstrated 2 years of project leadership experience.

Preferred

  • Computer Science with a Masters degree preferred
  • Strong project planning /management and verbal & written communication skills.
  • Possess excellent analytical, problem solving, organizational, interpersonal, and motivational skills, with the ability to move cleanly from theoretical to implementation thinking.
  • Good understanding of web application architectures and design principles as well as familiarity with our programming languages (Java, Angular JS) and AWS.
  • Experience with Agile Software and Test Driven Development methodologies.
  • Proven track record in team building and working cross functionally
  • Proven ability to work with business units and understand business needs
  • Experience implementing software quality and platform assurance/stability concepts
  • Experience working with both onshore and offshore development teams.
  • Ability to work in fast paced and dynamic development environment
