SCOPE OF WORK: To plan and implement financial aid program policies and strategies within a postsecondary educational institution. This position reports to the Director of Financial Aid at MCC.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

* Under supervision of the Financial Aid Director, advises students and families of diverse backgrounds on financial aid procedures, college costs, academic standards required for receipt of financial aid on course selection as it pertains to receipt of financial aid, and debt management issues;
* Works with Financial Aid Director to analyze financial documents and applies approved Needs Analysis systems to calculate a Family Contribution figure for each financial aid applicant; determines the amount and type of assistance the applicant is eligible to receive; advises families on planning for the financing of higher education and the process of applying for financial aid; performs all aspects of award packaging.
* Communicates with high school guidance counselors; agencies of state and federal government, and lending institutions; coordinates with the Business Office to ensure that financial aid is credited in a timely manner and an effective collection system is maintained and with the Admissions office with recruitment and retention efforts; serves on committees with college administrators, faculty, and staff to ensure an understanding of, and support for, the financial aid program.
* Participates in financial aid outreach programs to continuing and prospective students and conducts workshops and college nights and represents the institution at college fairs to explain and promote the financial aid programs.
* Collaborates in the formation of broad institutional policies on financial aid, which involves thorough analysis of all available data; maintains current knowledge of federal and other student financial aid programs, guidelines and regulations; assists in the decisions that serve as guides and general directives for the institutions Financial Aid Office.
* Assists in reviewing financial aid enrollment, disbursement and collection data and assists the Financial Aid Director in preparing financial reports for the Colleges leadership; uses the automated computerized financial aid management systems for awarding, packaging and tracking financial aid monies and applicants; and utilizes computer systems/software including: EDExpress, EDConnect, SCT Banner, Microsoft Word and electronic interfacing with outside agencies.
* Collaboratively awards federal, state and institutional funds in accordance with current statutes and regulations governing financial aid.
* Assists with the development and implementation of operating procedures and work methods for the Financial Aid Office; provides technical and operational training to staff as it pertains to financial aid; and designs and edits financial aid forms and college brochures and other forms of dissemination to counselors, potential students and their families.
* Complies with all college, system, state and federal rules and regulations.
* Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university with a major study in education, business administration, accounting, information technology, or social sciences. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience: Two years of professional or paraprofessional experience in the processing of student financial aid within an educational setting, with responsibility for planning, monitoring programs, or program evaluation. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

License/Certification: Eligibility for New Hampshire drivers license, if necessary for travel throughout the state.

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Considerable knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations governing student financial aid programs. Considerable knowledge of the principles of administrative work. Ability to work independently. General knowledge of student financial aid regulations and ability to interpret and apply such regulations. Ability to write technical information. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority.
