Job description
Job Title: Laboratory Technician I
Purpose: Perform specific responsibilities assigned by the Laboratory Director, Technical Supervisor, and Lab Manager. Also, perform a variety of administrative and technical activities as directed by Laboratory Director, Technical Supervisor, and Lab Manager.
Policy
Medical Laboratory Technician I shall:
· Uphold the policies and procedures of the organization, including but not limited to confidentiality of patient information and business operations.
· Represent the organization professionally and ethically.
· Communicate any complaints, grievances, or potential violations of state and/or federal law to the Lab Director.
Job Duties include but not limited to the following:
1. Must follow all laboratory policies and procedures pertaining to laboratory safety, testing procedures/standard operating protocols (SOPs), quality control (QC), proficiency testing (PT), and quality assessment program (QA).
2. Maintain daily logs.
3. Operate and perform instrument maintenance for laboratory automated analyzers, calibration and QC, review calibration and QC and troubleshoot for any issues.
4. Prepare necessary solutions for lab testing (internal standards, standards, QC materials, buffers etc.).
5. Participate in monthly, weekly, and daily QA and QC programs while maintaining updated documents.
6. Participate in appropriate continuing education (CE) programs and consult current technical literature to keep abreast of changes in the field.
7. Assist in maintaining up to date reagents and supply inventories.
8. Promote good public relations through productive and professional interaction with other staff.
9. Perform all other duties assigned or required.
Qualification:
1. Earned Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution, or earned associate degree in chemical, biological or laboratory science from an accredited institution, 1+ years of clinical lab experience or equivalent lab experience.
2. High School graduate or equivalent AND completed military Medical Lab Specialist (50 week) course, 2+years of lab experience.
3. High school AND MT/MLT (or equivalent), 2+years of lab experience.
Skills:
1. Employee must demonstrate basic computer skills as required to successfully perform their job duties.
2. Employee must have knowledge of basic lab testing principles.
3. Employee must be able to follow written and verbal instructions related to patient testing.
4. Employee must be able to work independently and with other co-workers.
5. Employee must have strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
6. Employee must have strong work ethic, be detail oriented, punctual, reliable, organized and punctual.
7. Employee must have strong communication skills.
8. Employee must be able to handle a fast-paced working environment.
Preferred:
1. 1-2 years of clinical lab experience.
2. PCR experience in molecular diagnostics lab.
3. Proficient pipetting skills.
4. COVID-19 sample handling.
5. LIMS experience: prior experience with LabDaq highly preferred.
6. IT experience highly preferred.
