JOB TITLE: .5 FTE LAB TECHNICIAN (Science Lab)
JOB PURPOSE: To provide technical and set-up support and assistance to certified staff in science department for set-up of labs and ordering and maintaining materials including chemicals.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma
- Advanced training/education desirable
- Prior related experience preferable
- Preferred major or minor in Chemistry or Biology
- Such additions and alternatives to the above qualifications as may be appropriate and acceptable
RESPONSIBILITY/ACCOUNTABILITY:
Responsible for quality and quantity of own work as assigned by certified teacher or building administrator.
REPORTS TO: School Administrator/Certified Teacher
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Set up lab(s) and appropriate required materials for teachers for the day.
- Maintain current inventory of supplies and suggest items for acquisition as needed; catalogue material, supplies, and equipment including keeping chemical inventory.
- Provide technical guidance, assistance, and direction to students and teachers as needed.
- Assist students in making proper use of equipment and materials; make self available to assist students with special projects and/or assignments.
- Keep materials and equipment in working order, including being comfortable with chemicals.
- Be able to make-up agar plates, solutions and have a comfort level in working with acids and bases.
- Maintain an orderly environment for teaching/learning.
- Able to manager safe storage environment and disposal of chemicals. Be cognicient of safety protocols with chemicals.
- Maintain high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student and school information.
- Communicate lab requirements re: safety, equipment use and storage of materials, required logs, paperwork, schedules, etc.
- Demonstrate flexibility and ability to respond to changing priorities.
- Collaborate with and support other building staff as needed.
- Demonstrate ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Utilize technology on a regular basis to assure timely and accurate communications as appropriate (i.e., e-mail, etc.).
- Maintain positive and professional relationships with co-workers.
- Proactively work to utilize work day effectively; manage time to meet workload demands and student/teacher schedules.
- Serve as a resource to and provide assistance to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
- Perform other related duties as required or requested.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 184 day position
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the employee's immediate supervisor/administrator in accordance with agreement between the Wilton Board of Education and WAESCA
PHSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift up to ten (10) lbs.
- Ability to stoop, reach, stretch, bend, work at odd angles in setting up lab(s) and appropriate materials
- Ability to sort, distribute, and lift lab materials.
- Ability to move throughout the building(s) or department as necessary to distribute appropriate materials or set up rooms for teachers/students
